Any information about Cairnpoos (or) Cairnoodles?
Thinking about purchasing a Cairnpoo at a local petstore. Does anybody know much about these breeds, their temperment, etc. Also, are they good for people with allergies?
Thanks! |

Please buy from a reputable breeder or rescue a dog. Purchasing from a pet store simply helps keep the dreaded puppy mills and bad breeders in business. You will help feed the supply & demand. NO reputable breeder will ever need a middleman to sell their pups, nor would they trust their pups to a store, if they truely cared about their puppies well-being.
You will pay in inflated price at a pet store, and get a puppy that came from who-knows-where, with an extremely questionable background, and you'll stand a good chance at having horrendous vet bills later. Sit back and do some research and you'll see... Anything is better than helping to keep a puppymill in business. Good Luck! |

Also, the 'oodle' & 'poo' dogs are not breeds. They're cross breeds/mongrels and you have no way of knowing what their temperament will be like (the parents could have terrible temperaments, despite their breeds).
That is not to say that cross breeds are bad, they make wonderful pets, but not knowing anything about the background of these pups doesn't help. Put that together with what pugdawg has said and it's not looking to good for that puppy in the window. Perhaps looking for a cairn terrier/poodle mix at your local shelter or at petfinder.com (which is a great resource for those looking for rescue dogs) would be better? Cass. |

I agree with everything Pugdawg1 said! Another thing is a Cairnpoo is what is commonly referred to as a "designer breed". They are bred strictly as a money-making venture and in all honesty it is difficult to tell which breed it will most closely resemble in looks and/or temperment. Most times they charge just as much as a purebred for what in reality if a mix. Many of these breeders also do not do the necessary health testing of the parents. Many people believe if Xbreed is mixed with a poodle it will not shed. It have seen some of the ?poos that shed just as heavily as the shedding breed that was used. If you live in the US a great place to look is www.petfinders.org Many times they have pups available. If you are looking for a particular breed just fill in the breed and it'll give you a list of all the purebreds & mixes of that breed that are available in your area. I just did a quick check where I live & there were 4 poodle/terrier mixes as well as purebreds of both breeds. You may be able to find the mix you are looking for for alot less than a pup from a pet store and you will be giving a home to a deserving furpal (and they are screened for temperment before being made available & if there are health issues they are upfront about it).

Please don't buy from a pet store. The puppies never come from good breeders, quite a few of them are unhealthy (and I must say that the small 'designer' breeds especially are hastily bred with no concern to health or anything besides making money) and it would be much wiser to invest your money in a puppy from a reputable breeder.
Cairn Terrier/Poodle mixes (I will NOT call them by those cutesy names) are not always shed-free. It's a ridiculous claim to say that all shedding dogs, crossed with poodles or other non-shed dogs, will be non-shed. If they happen to inherit the poodle coat, then they will be non-shed. But most of the time they are not. If you want a non-shed breed, or one better with allergies, consider a purebred poodle, coton de tulear, bichon, etc. from a REPUTABLE BREEDER. If you want to know what to look for in a breeder, go to the "breeding concerns" forum and read some of the stickies. Don't buy from a pet store, please. |

Purchasing a pet from a pet store, no matter what breed or "designer mix" is even more risky since your looking at puppies that come directly from a broker, this is a person who deals in quantity not quality and the pups come directly from puppy mills. There is no thought to temperament or anything else for that matter when millers breed dogs; their in it for a quick dollar and could care less how badly the dog turns out, you'll not only pay more for a pet store low quality pooch but nine times out of ten you'll also pay more at your veterinarians to care for all of it's health and structural problems throughout the dogs life. |

Ditto to everything. Don't buy from a Petstore unless you want to be buying from a puppymill. That is how I think of Petstores. Puppymill fronts. Also, just like everybody has bee saying, a Carinpoo isn't a breed. It is a mix. I can't give you any info on them because they aren't a breed, and don't have a breed standard. If you want a non shedding dog, I would be happy to give you a list of them.

I agree with everything that has been said. If you buy from a pet store, you are supporting puppy mills. These businessess are only interested in the almighty dollar. They have no interest in producing healthy, good temerament kind of dogs. They don't care about the future of that breed or the dogs themselves. The dogs are housed in the most inhumane conditions, filth which is hardly cleaned up, dirty water, small cages where they languish away their puppy hood, zero socialization, (vital to a dog's personality development) they're taken away from their mother and littermates way too early and don't get the necessary lessons learned from them. They are usually going to turn out mal adjusted.
If you can help educate other people about this issue, these low life, lowest of the low brows will go out of business. Like it was said, do some research. If you want a mix breed, get one from a shelter and give it a chance to have a happy life. Don't support people who keep turning out more dogs that won't have a happy life. Or go to a reputable breeder for a purebred, one who loves the dogs and thinks of the puppies as his/her own children, who has put into these dogs the best of the best and who knows how to breed and strives for genetically healthy dogs with good temperaments. I'm not sure, but I think Schnauzers also don't shed or don't shed much. Poodles are suppose to be hypoallergenic and they are unbelieveably intelligent. Cool dogs! |

I spent a year or so researching Dobermans before beginning to look for one. I studied more on training etc. Then it took me about that long to locate a few breeders about whom I felt confident. Then I had to wait on waiting lists. Some of these breeders had their puppies sold before their dogs were bred or had people who had waited through a couple of litters already. It was not a situation where I decided I wanted a Doberman and just went out and got one. This is how it should be for anyone getting a dog. You need some patience. I wanted my puppy in the worst way, but had to wait. Here are a couple of sites that may help you. In addition, there may be something you'd be interested in in the breeding forum. You'll know then better what a reputable breeder is. Good luck and if anyone here can help you more, I'm sure we're all more than happy to.

Laura, where do you live, I'd be happy to look up some mixes for you on petfinder, you can usually find "deisgner mutts" on there as rescues. I wholeheartedly agree with everything that has been said about puppymills and petstores.
Visit here and take a while to look around :http://www.puppymillrescue.com/puppymill.htm Examples: Herbie Designer Breed: "Cairnoodle" Babs Designer Breed: "Bichiepoo" Kelsie Designer Breed: "Yorkiepoo" Kaylee Designer Breed: "Dachsoodle" It is amazing what "desinger mutts" you can find on petfinder. ![]() |

First: Please don't buy a dog from a pet store. These dogs generally have lots of mental health issues. Have you owned a terrier before? On a good day, these can be challenging. You may have your hands full with a needy, emotionally disturbed dog. If you don't have to work outside your home and have six months or a year to devote to the dog, go for it. But most of these end up in shelters because they are never fully house trained and have so many behavior issues. There are a few members here who got their dog from a pet store and the story has a happy ending...so far. Happy endings are rare.

Don't buy a dog from a pet store. These dogs come from puppy mills (horrible places where the animals are forced to sleep in their own feces, have no food or water, etc.) or backyard breeders (people that want only one thing: money). Not only will you be getting a sick dog, but you'll be supported animal abuse and neglect. "Cairnpoos" and all those other doodles, poos, and oodles are all just mixes. You can find great mixes at your local shelter and be saving a life.
