What breed of dog is this?

What breed of dog is this?

I think it is a Bearded Collie. But I have never seen one before except for on TV...so what do you all think it is? It"s possible it could be a Catalan Sheepdog or maybe a Havanese? But the Havanese are smaller this dog. He might weigh in around 25 lbs. He is twice Tillies size for sure.

Anyway my Tillie went out of heat today was a week ago. So why is he here? I wonder did someone throw him away cause he is in bad bad shape I found 3 and pulled off 1 big dog tick...I feel many more but he wont let me get them anymore, it hurt him so bad he would whine. He is knotted worst than I have ever seen. So very sad!!!

I wish he was mine I'd rush him in and get him took care of tomorrow. I guess he'd have to be shaved he so matted....such a shame. Or is that normal? He is even knotted on top of his mouth under the fur. He is such a sweet dogie!

Anyways, what do you all think he is?

There's a possibility he could be a Bearded Collie (it's difficult to see from the photos...to me he looks too small), but honestly I'd put my money on him being a shaggy mutt. A gorgeous one at that.
And if it were my yard he wandered into and he had that many ticks on him and matts in his hair, I'd take him to the nearest vet. Let them know I found him, see if they can treat him and perhaps if they know the owner (I'd get them to look for a microchip).
Failing that (due to expenses or distance from vet) I'd contact a shelter and take him in. He's either been missing for a long time, or he's being neglected at home. In either case, he needs help.

Cass.

Hey Cass been a long time since I been on. Anyway...I really thought of all that but don't want to be sued for have all that hair cut and making someone POed at me. I really thought he would go home by now, once he found out Tillie is not in heat. But like you said in any case he needs help.

A mutt huh? Oh well I like mutts and if no one comes looking for him in a day or so (3 days tomorrow) I'll take him in and get him some care. He is outside at my back door right now just lying there like he lives here.

He doesn't look that matted to me!! Or are the photo's after you've brushed him? Ticks can easily get on a dog in seconds so it having 3 doesn't mean that it's badly looked after!!!

Oh he is matted but it's in the under coat. Even his snout is matted. I don't mean to sound superior cause my schnauzer has gotten mattes too in her legs. But you would have to feel him to know. I will try later to get a better photo, as I'm about to go get dressed to go to the sewing center...yeeeeeeh! I love going there!

Actually, to me he looks like a Tibetan Terrier:

Size
14-17 inches and 20-30 lbs

However, from the pictures you have, it doesn't look like his tail is the same way as the Tibetan Terrier's is. Whatever he is, he sure is cute!

Tell ya what I'd do if something like that comes and parks itself at my house......I'd get my extension cord and clippers out and shave that fellow down and get those ticks off and a bath.

I called the vet and he is going tomorrow. She will look at him and advise. She said expect to spend around $80.00 for visit, cut, and de-fleaing. I sure hope I am doing the right thing!

OK here are more pictures for you all to judge and see what you think he is and one showing the mattes under belly, but he was scared of us holding him down and the camera so he ran under a bush.

Sitting by Papa Tillie is behind

Standing

One eye peeking out

Mattes

Scared

Also he don't feel as big as he looks. He feels bony but not like starving bony!
