Hi new to board. Read the info on Ori Pei. I have a beautiful Ori Pei she is 2 yrs old. and her name is Bitsy. She is having seizures and just started trying to see what causes them took to vet he is doing blood work.
I read a posting from some one about their Ori Pei and hope she will let me know how things are going. Her dog's mane is "Doc".
hope to hear from anyone who has an Ori Pei.

[i][i]Hi! My mom left the last thread - Dottie - asking about doc and problems her oripei is having....she had blood work done and was called this morning and told her red/white blood count is WAY down and she might have the dog version of Luekimia....my mom is 70 and this is her baby...we are trying to find any info out to help her out...she was put on 3 medications but was told if those didn't work, they could try a blook transfusion or she was going to have to be put to sleep...any help out there? We got her from a lady in Missouri named Cathleen....

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear about Bitsy. I have no suggestion to give but just wanted to let you know that I'll be thinking of her and hope that everything turns out ok.

Oh gosh she's adorable... I hope she does better, soon. Many good vibes going her way from the pug pack in Nevada.

Oripei Seizures

Maryland Pug Rescue is a fledgling pug rescue in Maryland that rescues and re-homes pugs and pug mixes. We currently have an 8-mos. old oripei in our rescue. She is featured on our site at www.mdpugrescue.petfinder.com. In seeking information about this breed I came across this thread about the oripei suffering from seizures. It is true that pug dog encephilitis is unique to purebred pugs. It is a tragic and incurable disease. However, pugs are prone to seizures for all types of problems, including epilepsy and even food allergies. We had a pug in rescue who began immediately developing seizures after the adopter switched to science diet for dental health. Because pugs are so sensitive to chemicals and additives, we feed an all natural and holistic diet. For the oripeis having seizures, I would first try finding a very high quality food, like Wellness, Innova or Merrick, or even making food with organic ingredients. It is pretty grim to be resigned to a lifetime of anti-seizure meds which have problems and side effects, themselves. Good food can go a long way toward dealing with pug (and pug mix) health issues.

prayers are with you

I hope your little guy is still doing well. I just found this thread and will keep you in my prayers. I had a sheltie that had seizures starting at age 3. He was on pheno everyday and only had 2 seizures after he started. I recently had to put him down as he turned 13 and had alot of old age problems and wasn't well. The pheno worked really well and kept him seizure free. my vet said if a seizure starts to time it and also cover him with a blanket as darkness shortens the seizure. Never put you hand by his mouth if he is having one cus they are afraid and don't know what is happening so may bite. Also, if he stays on the pheno you may have to have his pheno levels checked every 6 months or so and also his kidney and liver panels cus the pheno can sometimes cause problems. I had my little guy on special food for awhile so it was easier on his kidney/liver but went to regular food when i found he was ok and levels were all good. Good luck and although it may be tough at times its worth it. He is a really cute dog. i had a sharpei too and they are too cute. have you every seen a pugle (pug and beagle)? also cute!

Hi I am new to the site also and I have a pug/shar-pei. They are great dogs!! I just wanted to let you know I had a pug for 17 years who had seizures since he was 6 years old. He had a happy life and as time goes on you will get to see when they are about to have one. If you rub in between their front legs on their chest it does seem to help them get thru it . I will say a prayer for bitsy she is a cutie!
