I'm curious!

We have two dogs-both shelter dogs-and I wonder what they are. We were told our older, larger dog is mostly yugoslavian mountain hound-which she totally looks the part. But I'm having trouble figuring out the other! The shelter guessed rotti mix...but other than her color, she has no real rotti features. Her coat is thick and soft, she has a few spots on her tongue-they both do! She is about 20 lbs, around 8 months, has all her adult teeth and a GREAT personality. Any thoughts?

I'd almost guess that they have some lab in them. Something about their faces...but yeah, that's a hard one to figure.

The face reminds me of a Doberman - but I'm not very good at guessing breeds

I'd guess shepherd x dobermann or rottweiler. Is the yugoslavian mountain hound common in your area? Or did they know what breed one of the parents was?

Cass.

The larger dog-Piper-is the hound, and she is total hound! I grew up with a beagle and her and Piper have VERY similar traits and what not. She was fostered for a year before we got her and they were the ones to say Yugoslavian hound and when i started looking up info about that breed it really fit her. She is a bit taller in the legs though so she has something else in her. It's really the smaller pup-Brenna aka Bean-that we are curious about. The shelter guessed rotti mix, but i see no rotti in her. She is 20 lbs now and I'm guessing she'll be 40 at most full grown. Someone said chow because she has a couple spots on her tongue and a thick coat and her tail curls up on her, but i don't really see chow in her either!

YMHs are extremely rare (especially outside Yugoslavia), I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that that's what Piper is. Unless her parentage is known of course (or you live in Yugoslavia).
She most likely does have hound in her if she has hound traits, but it's unlikely to be YMH, regardless of what she looks like. She could a Black and Tan Coonhound mix, for example.

Cass.

I see dobie in her, just the colorings/and markings are doberman, and doberman mixes tend to have those rust markings. (As do rotties, but shes lean). The smaller one I want to guess Dachshund mix, but its hard to tell both from the picture.

Cute and soft....what a wonderful mix! Can you get picts of them standing or body shots? It's hard to guess with them laying down.

My rottie/lab mix was soft and super sweet until ~1.5 yrs when she started showing signs of aggression. The mcnab/lab mix I fostered had the softest coat I've ever felt on a larger dog and was a super sweet dog. As your pup grows, you might get a better idea what her cross is based on her behavior...it's so fun to guess though and I'm sure you'll get some interesting guesses.

I think Bean looks like a Rottweiler x Lab mix, even though you said you don't think she has Rottie in her. Whatever she is, she sure is a cutie!

Brenna looks like a Rottie/Corgi mix, short legs and curly tail. What does she act like?

Piper kinda has hound like expressions on her face....very cute

you know, I was thinking corgi too, she just has the facial expressions and ears and personality of a hearding dog-no ankle nipping though-more and more i see rotti in her face. she is very sweet! she wakes both my fiance' and I up every morning with kisses, gives Piper kisses, and tries to give our two cats kisses-they aren't so sure about her yet! She does good with the cats except when they run, she acts as if she wants to stop them from running, it's a funny thing to watch.

Piper, without a doubt in my mind, is a hound of some sort, with some of the information I've found and gotten on here, I'm thinking maybe lab/black and tan coonhound or somthing along those lines. She is an amazing dog, she doesn't wonder-unless she finds another doggie friend-she rarely barks, and she isn't phased by cats or most other animals.

I still see Dobe in Piper, but I also see Lab (for the thick coat) and I can see where you think B&T Coonhound too (those ears!).

Brenna does remind me of a Corgi mix, and she is just too cute!

Here is a picture of a dog mixed along Piper's lines....a Beagle?/Coonhound?/Rottie?/Doberman? mix:
