He can go straight on to a dry puppy food although you can use a combination of wet and dry if he won't eat the dry stuff on its own (make sure it's premium though and slowly change his diet from what he was being fed at his previous home to the new food).
Your dog can play with the new pup, but just supervise them until your pup is bigger and 'tougher'. Don't be too quick to separate them, as it's completely normal for dogs to play very rough with each other. Watch and listen to your pup's reactions. If he starts yelping or acts scared and trying to get away, that's the time to separate them. Ears back and tail between legs are a good sign the pup is scared. Tail up and ears forward are signs everything is ok. Cass. |

He's adorable!
But wow, I think that's the first time I've heard of two dogs mating where the male was the much larger dog in the mix. He is pretty small, but was the mother able to deliver him naturally? You'd think with the male being that much bigger that the pup/s would be too big for the smaller mother to delivery. And I agree, he should be fine on dry food, but if he's having a hard time with it you can always add a little bit of warm water to soften it too. Just make sure you if you do that to dump the food if he hasn't eaten it within about 15-20 mins, it can go off if you leave it out too long after soaking it. |

He doesn't even go to kibble, nothing was open last night so I went out and bought him Caesars, which I don't plan on feeding just a temparory fix until I make it to the best store, he eats that up real quick.
His mom had a HUGE litter, 7 puppies. and yes she delivered them fine, they were all super cute. So any wet food recomendations? and any puppy dry food? theres this food I buy it has real nutrients, not crude. lol I cook Axe's meals most of the time, he rarely eats kibble. Only because he's spoiled and turns his nose to even treats. |

At the top of the health forum here is a great and informative article on commercial dog food. Including a lists of great, good and terrible brands that are available.

Just be careful, if you have 2 males, be prepared to separate them once the pup starts maturing

Neutered or not, males can sometimes have problems getting along. More than likely you'll be fine, but the possibility is always there. There are plenty of people who've had terrible experiences with two dogs of the same sex in the one household and then there are plenty who've had no problems at all. As long as you're aware of this possibility and you're responsible (give the dogs plenty of training and socialisation....pitbulls need this as dog aggression is strong in the breed) you should be fine.

Tudo is adorable, congrats.
Yeah, male aggression isn't uncommon. Bear and Ailchu sometimes have spats. Though, Bear is neutered and Ailchu is not (too young to be neutered yet). Dog aggression is strong in Ailchu's breed so he's being socialized often. But sometimes it just happens. You just have to supervise them and know when it's play and when it's serious. |

Just wanted to add as an owner of three Pit Bulls and a regular foster of Pit Bull and PitBull crosses
I would recommend crate training your Pit puppy. Not only will this aid in potty training, but will prevent possible damage to household items! But the most important thing to remember is that Pit Bulls have a history of being dog aggressive. It is something that all bully owners MUST accept. Although we do not support dog fighting, we have to understand that that is what these dogs were bred for and that is not going to go away any time soon. Almost every Pit Bull will be on some level dog aggressive. Sometimes it willl show early on(I have a male that showed dog aggression at 1 year and I have a 2.5 yr old female that has yet to show). Socialization can help but will never erase instinct(imagine trying to train a Beagle not to bay or a Lab not to retrieve or swim). So what I am saying is that it is up to you to prevent an incident from occuring. When you are not home to supervise these dogs need to be separated, be it a crate or a room. For one, dogs are dogs and will have scuffles over any one thing, be it a stink eye over a toy or even sleeping room. However, since one breed is part Pit Bull, alot of damage can be inflicted to the other dog and to the Pit Bull breed as a whole. Two main reasons. Preventing such an incident from occuring protects your current dog from harm. And also, it will prevent another media news headline "Pit Bull maims(kills) another dog". Even if this cute baby is a mix, if he even slightly resembles a Bully breed, he will be labeled. And his is what cause breed bans, which can ultimately affect you ad a Pit Bull mix owner. I am not saying it wil happen, but it is WORTH the prevention. I have known Pit Bulls that have grown up and lived together for five years and then got into a deadly fight. One had to be put down due to damages. Some others had to be crated and rotated(meaning, they cannot be allowed out together at all, even with owners present) as they no longer got along as well. All dogs will fight but Pit Bulls tend to do alot of damage. I have had at least three and up to six Pit Bulls in my home at one time for over three years and have not had one single fight, but doesn't mean I am going to risk one of my babies getting hurt. Just wanted to warn you as a new Pit Bull mix owner. These are the greatest dogs in the world, they just come with alot more responsibility. He sure is CUTE and kudos for having both of your dogs neutered. Good luck. This is all coming from the heart! |
