No one has anyway of knowing what it would be like. Mixbreeds are a lottery really. Could be that the dog could have a good mix of both pug and pit temperaments, or it could be have a pug temperament and no pit, then again it could be all pit and no pug or it could act like neither breed at all.
Same with looks really. Could look all pug, just bigger or could look all pit, just smaller. Or it could like neither pug nor pit is in its mix. Make sure you look into all the temperament and health problems that both breeds have before to decide for sure if that's what you want. Especially the health problems. A short nosed dog (dogs known for breathing problems and low tolerance to heat) that is super active (like pitbulls are) could be asking for trouble. As for size...again...depends on the individual pup/dog. In a litter you could have small ones and big ones. You never know with mix breeds. Cass. |

thanks for the quick reply,
I'm very curious I'm going to look at the little guy today to see if he's the right one. I am however going to get one with the longer nose. Preferably a more pit looking one, from the picture I seen which is only one, they look more pitbull then pug, and like you said You'll never know. I'll have pics up tonight if I get it, I hope he's active him and Axe will get along great. Also getting a second dog, should the second dog eat just out of Axes bowl? or should I get a seperate bowl? Will the dog do pee on axes pee pad or do I now need a seperate? |

It's so exciting looking at puppies, but please try to look past the cuteness and see the health issues too. You can get a sound puppy but as Cass said and you already know, you can end up with a complete behavioral, medical and/or financial nightmare.
Do you know how to temperament test or check for medical and skeletal abnormalities? Why I ask is because the 2 breeds can have major problems. Problems with Pugs: 1. Heart murmurs, 2. Elongated palate also called elongated soft palate (very expensive to correct ~$2K and if left untreated can be life threatening, the parent might have it corrected already so make sure you ask), 3. Hip dysplasia 4. Luxating patella 5. Night blindness 6. Pigmentary keratitis 7. Stenotic nares 8. Pug dog encephalitis (PDE) Please check out some pug sites or research each above disease seperately so you know what to look for. Here is a good site to start with, Genetic Health Issues Pit Bulls have some of the same problems too, but some common Pit specific advice I see is: 1. Stay away from white because they are blind (also called double merle or lethal white if you want to Google) 2. Blue Pits are beginning to show abnormal and fearful temperaments more often than other colors. This is because Blues are being mass"produced" without regard to temperament as blues are a current fad ![]() 3. Hip dysplasia Here's 1 reference for Pits, American Pit Bull Terrier Network Merle and the Pit Bull Here are some other good sites to look at: OFA: Disease Information Volhard: Puppy Aptitude Test HTH a bit ETA About your questions regarding adding 2nd dog, it really depends on the 2 dogs temperaments, your lifestyle and your expectations. I don't like pee pads, personal experience has taught me to never use them unless in extreme emergencies. Some dogs cannot tell the difference between a towel on the floor and a designated pee pad. I'd suggest 2 bowls but if you free feed, it will not matter. Maybe you can think about scheduled feedings. |

I would most definitally get a second bowl. Not only will that avoid confrontations over resources, but Axe and your new pup will be (or at least should be) eating different amounts and types of food. Blackie and Rose eat the same amount and same type of food, but they still have their own dishes to prevent squabbles and to make sure they are both eating their share. The only thing Blackie and Rose share is a water dish. They have seperate dog houses, seperate beds, seperate toys.....
I'm not sure about using a peepad, because I've never used one with my dogs. And as Dogs4life said, your pup may end up having health issues, but it won't be any greater than rescuing a purebred dog would be. As long as you know what you may be getting into, go for it. I can't wait to see pictures of your potential pup. I'm trying to decide if a Pug/Pittie mix would be cute or so ugly it'd be cute! LOL |

One more thing, I totally forgot about Breed Specific Legislation and discrimination. Please check where you live about legal issues. Also, people who own Pits and Pit mixes (sometimes mixes count), are having housing problems because rental agreements and homeowners insurance policies are often asking about breeds and mixes. If you own a home, please review your policy and see what the consequences are if something does happen and you are caught with a Pit or Pit mix.

Well I didn't look for any birth defects although I should have, I'm not familar with puppy health.
But I'm taking him for a vet check next week, and his first shots. So I'm sure she'll notice something. The puppy has a really nice black and white coat with white markings, I have him at home. I believe he was let go to early, he is only 6weeks. He looks exactly like a minature pitbull to be really honest. He seems to have a really good attitude he's already jumping and playing with my other dog. I'll keep you guys updated as we go to vet for a check up. Lol he's such a cutie. I'll be getting him de wormed and neatured as well. |

![]() ![]() ![]() His name is Tudo "Two-Doh" He's 6weeks old, grr a little young should still be with his mom but isn't. Axe is helping with that process though. He protects the little thing, but sometimes plays to rough with it, all in all their super cute and I'm sure they'll make super friends. I was wondering on your opinions what he looks like as he is a pugxpitbull. I think he resembles a pit bull more, but with a shorter nose, and bigger eyes. The nose isn't short enough to effect his breathing I don't think, but maybe I'm just use to Axe's giant nose. I think his eyes look puggish, but his head, and his body is built like a pitty. Remember Axe is a Min Pin X and is only around 15lbs (Very good build, just he's a giant) So the puppy is VERY small. any input will be great, thanks for looking at my little heathins. ![]() |

He's absolutely gorgeous.
I love brindle dogs, that colouring has always had a soft spot with me. He does look more pit than pug, but the pug size is definately there. That nose is quite short, but I don't think you'll have problems. You'll have to wait and see though. It will be wonderful to watch this little guy grow up. Good luck with him. Pitties are very biddable (ie: trainable) and pugs aren't anywhere near as untrainable as people think, so you should have a lot of fun training your new pup to do all sorts of weird and wonderful things. I'm jealous. Cass. |

I met the mom and dad, the dad is a very nice pitbull purebred. and the Pug mom is a very good looking pure bred pug. The dad has a 33inch head, and weighed 62lbs. I'm not sure about the mom "pug" The dad was white and red, and the mom was just black.
My only question is because he is so young should I feed him wet food, then eventually just work our way up to feeding him dry? Also is it okay if my dog plays with him? He plays a little rough just because he can, I stop him lol but this is the first time I've had two dogs "At once" lol So I'm just wondering. |
