I have 2 one is 7 We also have a new addition she is 11 weeks old.
Our 7 year old I might add is in perfect health and the vet expects him to live till about 22.I got both from breeders with a good track record (I do agree you need to check out a breeder like you would for any dog). Both were at a fair price way less then many of the purebreds who were "made" also by mixing at one point in time. ![]() ![]() |

This "all purebreeds were crossbreeds at one stage" is no excuse for greedy, selfish people to breed mixes. Excuses, excuses, excuses is all we ever get. I'm sick of it. It's always the dogs that suffer. Cass. |

I completely agree with Cassiepie. I find it very selfish of you to have supported a BACKYARD BREEDER OF MUTTS for your own desires.

What were those reasons? So they hunt better work better or even in some cases look better.
I got my 1st dog because I fell in love with him period.I got the second for the same reasons along with considering when adding a second dog the breed and sex my 1st dog would be more accepting of as well as the second. Both times I was informed and questioned with the same things had I wanted a pure Jack. The breeders cared that they went to a good home & that I knew what I was getting in to & how to care for them. Also unlike a shelter they took into consideration how I took care of and exercised my dog vs if I had a fence or not. Also any time anyone asks me about my dogs I make sure to tell them what they would be getting in to because these dogs follow the Jack traits and I do know there are many Pure Jacks in shelters because people are not prepared for them. That being said I will give you I have seen some other poo and doodles breeders were it is quite a different case. All I am saying is not all breeders and not all owners are alike & to lump them in sterotypes is wrong especially when all they asked is hey does anyone else have a dog like mine that I love. A better service to keep dogs out of shelters especially Jacks, pure or mixed is making people who do not have one yet aware of their characteristics. So to the next persons question a good track record for me is a breeder who asks those questions and make sure the purchasers know these things and examples of former customers who still have and love their dogs because they had this information going in and prepared. As to why I did not get a dog from a shelter? I tried. Even though I have 1 very well cared for and happy dog who gets tons of exercise,I have a large apartment that is very pet friendly with doggie stations, play areas walking trails etc..I am home 24/7 with my pets and was willing to provide any refrences or whatever they needed. I was denied because I lived in an apartment and was told they could not consider on a person by person basis. In the case of my 1st dog. I got him after , I was denied a dog who was going to be put to sleep the next day because I did not have a fenced yard. They would rather a dog die because he did not have a fence. So again a better service would be to change those things and not go on and on to people who love their dogs and want to share that. |

He is adoreable!! I bet you can find a mixed breed dog at your local shelter or rescue though, to those of you spending all this money you don't need to be spending. And you'd be saving a life!
Anyone can rescue, you just have to be patient until you find the right dog. |

A good breeder is not just one who asks questions. A good breeder is one who works/shows/titles (either or) their dogs, who tests all their dogs for genetic problems (this is not just a 'vet check' or 'health check') before considering breeding them (and who refuses to breed from dogs who do not have good results).
Anyway...this is getting way off topic, and it's my fault. I apologise for that. I stand by everything I say and will not change my mind. I love dogs too much. Still, your dogs are gorgeous and I have nothing against them. Just their intentional breeding. Lets leave this 'mutt breeding' debate for another thread, yes? Cass. |

My breed of choice was originally bred to be an all around working dog - they herd, pull carts and protect. Everything done in early developement of the breed was done to ensure that they were capable - both physically and mentally to do that job. Things like coat color, ear set, tail set, etc. were set to make them unique in the working world and identifiable as the breed they are. I am quite sure that I could get a puppy of my breed of choice for what you paid for your pup. I will probably pay more, however, because I will insist that the dog meets the breed standard, it's parents have been genetically tested, and it is physically and mentally capable to do the job it was bred to do. |

Lilac I am not going to keep debating this over and over. I will say however this breeder mainly breeds purbreds and as Cassiepia mentioned does the shows etc..the only poos are the Jackapoos. I have the lineage of both parents of my puppy.
My 1st Jackapoo was the result of the one and only poo litter the lady bred & I found out about him from her sister he needed a home with people who would not get frustrated and dump him off at a shelter at that time poos were not the" in" thing. She was responsible in making sure as best she could that we were those people. I say that because many Jacks period are sold without that and abandoned.I consider my dogs Jacks to be honest they act like Jacks and I love Jacks They need tons of exercise and lots of patience and many do not realize what they are getting into. Also I said I got my babies at a fair price what I meant by that is I did not pay a ridiculous amount from someone who is trying to market "poos of all kinds" as the allergy free dog with tons of litters and make a killing.Or a pure from some people & pet stores etc.. Like I said my main point is a person made a post to share her dog with other Jackapoo owners not to be bombarded with this .We all have a right to our opinions and I respect them and have no problem disscussing them, I even share some of them .What I take issue with is the situation those opinions are brought up in and assumptions made. |

I also think that a shelter is the best place to get a dog, that said I really am surprised at how many posts of people showing pics of their dogs turn into debates like this. I don't think it is anyones right to make someone feel bad about themselves for buying a dog to love because it was bought at a byb (that is where these dogs are bred, no reputable breeder would breed designer dogs) Some people are not educated about these things (I know I never was), and there are plenty of posts about the evils of puppymills and byb on this forum that could educate others, w/o attacking those who want to post pictures of their pups. And I know buying from byb or puppymills are supporting them, but regardless, these dogs still need homes, and these people were kind enough to give them one.

How cute they are. I have a Jack-a-Poo named Teddy. He's 1 1/2 years old now. He's the cutest little thing and very unique if I might add. I got Teddy knowing what he was and that's what I wanted. I got him from an elderly couple that had a litter about 20 minutes from my home. Just to say, I love dogs ( all dogs ), whether it's purebred or mixed, not one is better than another. But, I do not agree with big breeders mixing breeds for profit and selling for big prices.
This is Teddy... ![]() |

Your dog is absolutely adorable, I especially love his mustache!
But, does that mean you think it's ok for small breeders to breed mixed-breed dogs and sell them for a profit? |
