Boston Terrier?

I have been trying to figure out what mix Wesley since we got him, I knew that he was 1/2 purebred lab but I didn't know what else....He has a absolutely perfect black shiny coat and I knew that if his father was a mutt, Wesley's coloring would have more colors...So then I was looking at different dog breeds and his dad must have been a Boston Terrier! His dad had to have had up ears because of the way his ears are going...He also has to be mixed with something small because of his size, since he is only 45lbs. and 9 months old(possibly older)....We were yold he looked like a pit when he was a puppuy but now he doesn't look anything like it...His jaw is just like a Boston's and there are just so many similarities that I think he MUST be 1/2 purebred Boston....
What are Boston Terrier's temperments like? I heard that they like childrenand that is defineately true about Wesley! He LOVES kids!!!! Does anybody else have a Boston mix or purebred?
Thanks!

Guess What? I had always noticed that Wesley had a "red cast' to his black fur when he was in the sun, but never thought anything of it...until I was just researchijng Bostons and I guess there is a particular called "seal" that has a red cast to black fur but it can only be seen in bright light...This is so exciting! Now I know he IS a Lab/Boston!!!!!!

I disagree...I don't see any boston terrier in him at all. If his father was a mix of a whole bunch of breeds, it's absolutly possible that he could turn out black. He's obviously got his mother's features and probably his father's size.

Lab's love kids too remember.

Cass.

Yes, but Wesley looks a lot different in person....When he goes in certain positions, he will look totally different, personally I think his father was a Boston because there are also a lot of Boston's in the area that he was from...But, yes, you are right his father might not been because obviously there is no way to tell for sure, but if you don't think he looks like a Boston/Lab what do you think he looks like? I saw some Boston/Lab mixes and they look just like him...His size is way to small to be any kind of big mix as his mother weighed about 80lbs or over and he is 9 months and weighs only 45lbs, as far as I can tell he is about full grown because he hasn't grown at all in the last few months...But what do YOU think he looks like?

I think he looks like a lab mix. Yeah, I know he is...but that's what he looks like. No other breeds are really jumping out at me. But, because he is so 'lab like', I think his father was probably a lab mix. I have no idea what he would have been mixed with but maybe beagle or pittie or staffy or a combination or possibly something else.

I really don't know. I just don't see any boston in him, that's all. Didn't mean to offend, if I did.

Cass.

Not necessarily. Size may vary naturally within a breed, even when the breeding is very carefully controlled, (take, for instance, my undoubtedly purebred pet quality Shiba male who is almost two times as tall as the standard suggests he should be) so it stands to reason that variation in size with a lab mix X lab mix would be perfectly reasonable. I've seen Labs in all sizes, many of them very small. I'd not be surprised if his sire was indeed a Lab mix as well - and keep in mind that the sire could have had a smaller breed and/or individual involved in his parentage.

Hi again Annie,
I noticed in another post that due to his size, you ruled out any possibility of pit in Wesley. I wanted to point out that the traditional pit, as opposed to some of the exaggerated animals being bred today, was not as large a dog as many people suppose. Forty-five pounds is not an unusual weight for them - if memory serves (forgive me if I'm wrong, pittie experts), 45-65 is *somewhere* around the typical range. I can't really evaluate whether or not Wesley has pit in him (and a lot of that would be subjective anyway) as the picture is small and not very close up, but I thought this could possibly be some useful information if you and your family noticed some other pittie characteristics and ruled out the possibility only due to size.

Thanks Sayuri! But his mom was a purebred Black Lab that weighed about 80lbs. or over...He is (as far as I can tell) full grown and he weighs only 45lbs....forgive me if i'm wrong but, I think his dad would of HAD to be a small dog...And again, forgive me if I'm wrong, I don't think he could be a pit because they are so "stocky" and "thick"...Wesley has very long skiny legs and he is tall....He looks a lot different in pics then he does in real life, sometimes he looks like a purebred Lab..othertimes my mom says he looks like a gorilla Personally I never thought he lokked like a gorilla but anyways...I think that everyone has a different perspective so in a mixed breed dog different traits pop out to different people...

His father doesn't necessarily have to have been that small - not that it would be surprising - unexpected traits pop up all of the time. Both Tai's sire and dam were perfectly within the range of the breed standard - you can't explain his enormous size just by looking at him. Thus, Wesley's size cannot be concretely evaluated as being caused by a small sire - he may be a "throwback" to something smaller further back in his pedigree, and there are of course other genetic and environmental factors that could be taken into account.

I'm not saying that he is pit, part pit, or half pit, just that you can't generalize on size alone, especially when that size is a common one for pits. Not all pits are as stocky and thick as you would imagine either - a lot depends on the lines you're looking at, the individual dogs in question, and of course, your "perception" of what is stocky.

Basically this all goes to say...you'll probably never get a more concrete idea of what he is beyond "Lab mix," which isn't really a problem. Whatever he is, he's a beautiful dog.

My sister has a boston terrier. I looked at Wesley's pictures and I didn't really see any Boston in him. I recently saw a Boston mix and you could defintely tell he has some boston in him.

My Kayda is a pit mix and she is just at 45lbs at a year and she will not get any bigger. She has longer legs and thinner body too she isn't stocky at all.

I know you don't care what he is but it is always fun to wonder isn't it?
