Xoloitzcuintle!

This is Mia (full name was Acunia, but we changed it) she's a mexican hairless dog

She does have fur on her head and tail, which is wrong.. but I don't care about that.

She had been shipped into southwestern Ontario from Washington. I think she was used in a puppy mill as she is very timid, and when we got her, her nipples were really saggy, they still are long and saggy.
She was given up by the people who had her shipped out, because she was peeing and pooing on the floor. So I started fostering her, but now it looks like we will be keeping her, as we have had her since august and no one has been remotely interested in her.
She has bonded to me very much.. she doesn't like it when I leave, and has pretty bad seperation anxiety when I do go out. She's a very needy dog, I think she's afraid of being abandoned again.

She's about 4 years old, shes now been spayed and won't have puppies ever again.

Onto pictures!

I have been having some trouble with her skin. I was told by the people who gave her up that they had been using dove soap to bathe her with, and so thats what I bought.. but she's got so many blackheads, and these little cyst type pimpley things on her legs... is there anything I can do to get rid of those? I took her to the vet and he had never seen a hairless dog and didn't really say anything about them.

The lack of hair leads to a reputation for being clean, for being easy to wash with a sponge, and for a natural lack of fleas or other parasites. Despite this, the dog needs as much care as other dogs, but in another way. The skin should be taken care of frequently. Almost all of this breed tend to have acne or at least blackheads. The skin often becomes too dry and can be treated with some kind of moisturing cream.

Protection against sunlight may be necessary, depending on the season and the color of the dog’s skin. The dark-colored dogs get used to direct sunlight and need to be looked after only in spring when sunlight gets stronger. The light-colored dogs (copper) and spotted ones have to be protected always, in summer. They tend to quickly sunburn.

Protection against cold is necessary when it gets colder. However, sensitivity to cold may vary from dog to dog, with smaller dogs more sensitive to cold than the bigger ones.

The ears need special attention. The rims of the ears can dry out and chap easily.

Aww I love her. I actually find hairless dogs to be very cute. Most people I know find them ugly but I love them.

She's gorgeous! Wish we had that breed in Australia, I'd love to see them in person.
I can't believe no one's interested in her.

Cass.

She looks like she has settled in very nicely and I'm so happy for her, and happy your giving her what I'm sure she never had.........love! She's so cute in her jammies. You can wash these babies in a mild castile soap, and put a little lanolin on the skin and in the summer when you can use the water babies sunscreen lotion, paying attention to the ears for sure.

Somone told me Keratolux shampoo will help get rid of her blackheads and little cyst like lumps. Has anyone heard of this before?

I am going to the vets in the morning to take a dog from the rescue up for some annual vaccinations, I'll ask him about it as well.

I'm sure I posted here before - anyway she's beautiful! My uncle used to have some sort of hairless dog when I was little - he had the BIGGEST personality I've ever seen in a dog - he was such great fun!

when i was planning on dogs last year that was on my list but i ended up sticking to a maltese

she look really happy and sweet

to have the hair on the head and tail and feet isn't wrong..some of them have a hair on those areas but others dont

Too cute!
I have always found, at least at dog shows, that it's the little naked dogs that have the most spunk and "I'm too sexy" attitudes - they strut around like they own the ring - always big crowd pleasers!

Although it would take a while for me to get use to a naked dog, I think she's adorable. The second photo did it for me
