Non-Sporting Group Dogs in the Non-Sporting Group do not fit the criteria of the other breed groups, or may no longer perform the tasks they were originally bred for. These dogs all make wonderful family companions.

The American Eskimo Dog

When I got my shetland sheepdog, she seemed like the perfect dog for me. I soon found out though that she was a tad to large for my taste and I have always been fond of Snow Breeds. I looked more into snow breeds and I could not find a small snow breed. I found the American Eskimo Toy and I fell in love with them. I might be getting one in a couple years, but I am not sure. I have not decided Does anyone else know about the American Eskimo Toy dog

Yes I am a fan of hyper dogs I have had a boston terrier and now I own a sheltie. So I am quite happy with the hyper bouncy types of dogs.

PS: You have a Samoyed? I have always been fond of those to

Oh your puppy is so cute I have always liked Samoyeds, I would think that Samoyeds where perfect for me, but their size is a problem. They are still beautiful dogs

I have always liked Toy dogs, so when I was looking for my breed I only looked in the toy group. I did find the American Eskie that was a toy and suits my needs well. They are almost exactly like shelties only they are snow breeds and they are smaller Here are some pics of some from the internet...

These pics came from... California Angels

Hi, I have just registered with this forums. My name is Carol and I am owned by 4 American Eskimo dogs, 3 standard and 1 toy. My daughter is owned by 5 standard American Eskimo dogs. We have an abundance of white hair everywhere!

The difference between the standard eskie and a toy eskie is mainly the size. A toy is under 12" at the whithers while a standard is between 15 - 19" at the whithers. Plus a standard has a better temperament - the toys can be a bit snippy. I like the standards better but have the toy because she is a rescue. I am also getting a mini puppy next month to show as I just can't move out the standards any longer - getting too old and have a tendency to trip over blades of grass.

so a standard would be closer to a Sammy then a toy would be...the toy sounds like it would remind me more of my Min Pins then my Sammy...
Ive never met a Eski, but I hear they are a LOT like Samoyeds...just slightly more active..

Yes, a standard is closer to a sammy. People think that the eskie is a miniature sammy as a sammy is more common than the eskie. But if you look at both of them, you can see that they are nothing alike except that they are both white, have long hair and curled tails. Their ear set is different, their eyes are different and their muzzles are different. I will try and see if I can upload a couple of pictures of my guys plus I need an avatar. Maybe I will wait till I get my new puppy next month.
