| Non-Sporting Group Dogs in the Non-Sporting Group do not fit the criteria of the other breed groups, or may no longer perform the tasks they were originally bred for. These dogs all make wonderful family companions. |

I grew up with a Keeshond, Bear, who died a few years ago...
He was a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL dog-great with everybody he met . We actually got him at the local pound, he was a stray...we lucked out with him! |

Aww!
Yeah, I usually hear either really great stories or really terrible stories with keesies. It's usually, "Oh, she was the best dog we've ever had," or "He was the most aggressive dog on the block and he was nasty to everyone!" Good for you for rescuing a keesie in need!!! I'm glad that he turned out well for you. I know that I probably won't ever own another breed of dog because I love them so much as a breed; plus all of the individual keeshonden I've met have been great (guess I've been lucky that way). |

I honestly don't know too much about the breed, but I do know he was just the most wonderful dog ever!
When I was a kid, I wanted a dog so desperately, but my parents (who are divorced) both refused for so long. I had "dog fever" so bad, that my dad would take me to the local shelter as a treat-just so I could be NEAR dogs (I was desperate, I think I was the only kid who had a subscription to dog fancy, and had pictures of dogs plastered across all of my walls, but no dog! until my dad got Bear...) and I fell so desperately in love with Bear, that my soft hearted father surprised me the next day by picking me up from Sunday school with the dog in the car! I will absolutely never forget that feeling for my entire life. I only saw my dad on the weekends, summers, holidays and dinner once during the week, so Bear was ultimately my dad's dog, but I definitely bonded with that dog, and am so lucky to have had him growing up. |
