Boston's and the heat....
Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone here has some advice for me about my BT and the heat.
Moxy and I are very active. We go on hikes almost every weekend. She loves it and I always have fresh water ready for her in my back pack but I was just wondering how much exercise/heat a BT can take. She seems to do just fine on the trails (they are in the shade) but I notice when I walk her around the city (we recently went to NYC) she gets tired and overheated and I end up having to carry her until she begs to get down. I hate to leave her at home when I go out somewhere besides the trails but I don't want to over exhaust her either. Any suggestions? Any time limits on how long she shold be exercising/playing for? |

I have 3 pugs.. 2 of which are very active. We walk 2 or so miles a day and we are always doing SOMETHING. But the heat puts a damper on things a bit. I now only walk them early in the morning or around sunset. I bring water with me for them and if I get concerned at all I soak them with the water bottle. Dogs can be so driven to please that they loose all common sense lol. I know without a doubt my pugs would go til they fell over from heat exhaustion. I don't think of it as a certain time limit. I just go by how the dog is and how warm it is. Basically just good ole common sense
I also go with the 'if i have a doubt, i dont go' rule. I'd rather have mine safe than sorry. If they are bored, I take them out back in the kiddie pool for some cool fun - Bentley especially, can wear himself out just splashing in the water with his floatie toys. BTW - I adore bostons. My Winston grew up with with a little female boston as a playmate. She was great. They are awesome dogs. |

I too only walk my boston's when it is cool out cause the heat is very hard on them...being a brack breed they don't take heat very well with the pushed in face and hot weather makes breathing hard on them.
