| Non-Sporting Group Dogs in the Non-Sporting Group do not fit the criteria of the other breed groups, or may no longer perform the tasks they were originally bred for. These dogs all make wonderful family companions. |

Any tips on how to get a dog into the show world? I am thinking of showing my Eskie (either in obediance trials or conformation) and I would like to know more about it. How much time does it take to train a dog for shows? Is it expensive? Is it worth the time and cost? Pleeeeeeeeeeas reply soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Probably the best advice I can give you is to make contact with the breeder, if their reputable they should be able to assist you in not only evaluating your dog to see if conformation is an option but can also give you tons of the information your seeking as well as get you started off on the right foot.
Its also helpful to make contact with your local breed club and speak with them and make an appointment with your veterinarian to be sure that all the proper health testing is done so that your starting off with a healthy dog that can do what is required without injuring itself. (( Important for both but in my opinion even more so with agility since you want to make sure those knees, hips, shoulders and heart can take the stress. ) I myself do not currently participate in agility but do in conformation and can tell you that it can be an expensive hobby. $28.00 + per day, per dog for entry fees, the shows aren't always right in your area so you'll be required to drive and lord knows gas isn't getting any cheaper! lol Along with that you'll have hotel and food expenses. |

Crossfire knows a lot about showing and stuff.
We do have a Eski lover/shower here on the forum. She may be able to have some more advice also... |

I'm afraid you can't show him in conformation if he's neutered. The whole point of conformation shows is to evaluate breeding stock, so it makes little sense to show an altered dog (though it's fun!). If you're under 18 years of age you can show him in Junior Showmanship, though, and he can still compete in performance events.
Good luck! |

Egads I missed the rest of this thread totally since I posted on it last. Sorry! Yep, starting off in juniors would be a great way to get some ring experience and it won't matter if your boy is neutered. As long as he is registered he can be shown in juniors. For instance, if registered AKC then he can be shown in AKC juniors.
You can even get your required junior handler number right online through the AKC site. ![]() |
