Talking A REAL dressgae ride today!!!! :D

WOW! I have been riding dressage for about a year, and have only ridden the 'old guys' on the farm (every one else is not broke to ride, or was preggers) they are 20 yrs old, and 27 yrs old. Even though, they don't feel that old when you ride them, they aren't as "smooth" etc as they used to be when they were younger.

Today, I rode one of my instructors mare for the first time (she was preggers, then got sick...almost died ) She is a REALLY nice mare. she was trained to Grad Prix and showed I1/I2 (I think, I may have it mixed up...not sure). She was retired, as she is also 20 yrs. and MY GOD I LOVE HER. SHE WAS SOO SMOOTH!!!! She is nothing like the other two I have been riding, I can't even compare them to her. It was 'work' to keep her going, but everything felt so 'easy.' I can't describe it, but I am on cloud nine right now. hehehehehe I can't wait to ride her again. I plan on stealing her and stashing her in my 4x4 backyard...LOL!!! Even her "lazy" trot was amazing....wow, I am in LOVE!!!! I would kill for a mare like that!!! WOW!!!!

She was soo good, (usually she has a gait anomolie ..sp?) and the only issue we had was getting her off of my left leg, didn't matter if it was inside or out. We worked on it some, but even when she did do it, it wasn't 100%. I am going to ask to have a lesson on her tomarrow, and work on that. I can't believe how smooth and WONDERFUL she moved. I am so freakin' happy!!!!

You can see her here: http://goldenventurefarm.com/broodmares.html Her name is Duenken, but we call her 'Kerry.'

Sorry for boring you with my post, but I just had to share my excitment!!!

That must have felt amazing riding a horse like her. The horse I've been assigned to ride in my lessons is really bouncy and rushes (and he leans on the bit), but I love him, he's really sweet! I jumped him for the first time yesterday, and for a smaller horse, he sure gives it all he's got! He's about 15.2hh and is a chestnut qh/tb (I think).

Kerry is gorgeous!

Yeah, the other two that I have been riding are NOTHING like her. The one mare is 27 yrs, but she will not stop!! She always wants to go under saddle...ask for a trot, you get a canter. If she is feeling good at the trot, she may just start cantering for no reason. She LOVES to go. She is good to do dressage on, but she is so old, she doesn't bend anymore, and you can't do any lateral work with her.

The other one is a gelding, 20 yrs. and he is pretty good to learn on, he does some lateral work (enough for where I am) and he bends, but I have only gotten him in a frame ONCE! He just won't do it!! Then he is lazy, and no amount of pushing him will make him go, and without a dressage whip, you will just make your self really sore and really tired. LOL He also LOVES TO JUMP!! He will make his own course up, you don't have to 'ride' just hang on ...he will take you over what ever is in the way....point and shoot!

Anywayz, Kerry was a VERY VERY VERY nice change. I am going to ride her again tonight when it is cooler. I can't wait, I am so excited.

I bet that was neat! My best friend does dressage with her horse. He (the horse lol) is twelve and is an experienced dressage horse, and since my friend was learning on him, you could tell that Pride was thinking, "Why oh why is this novice on me?" lol But he listens to her and they make a good team. She also does jumping with him, which he is good at, but he won't jump over water of anykind. lol She wanted him to walk/jump/whatever over a two foot stream and he balked and refused to go. lol
