Question for cat owners.

My question is: Catnip - what do your cats do with it? LOL

Every cat I've owned up until Bandit and Chubby have rolled around in it, and that's it. But Bandit and Chubby, well.......they eat it, every last bit. I don't give them it very often, but it baffles me each time I do, they inhale it like it's their last meal.

Bandit is the worst, if I forget and leave the bag of catnip out, he gets into it, rips open the bag and eats it. The one time he inhaled the entire bag while I was at work. DOH!

Is it common for cats to eat it? Or are my cats just weird?

I have no clue about catnip. I don't buy the actual stuff... I just end up getting toys that have the catnip in it. But, I've heard the amount is very minimal in the toys. I've never seen my cats really react to the toys, but Peter with roll all over the toy, rub his face on it, etc. Like it's sooooooooooo worth rolling on. LOL

But, I guess I was no help. LOL

In the past I have always had catnip plants in the house when I have cats. Usually a 4ft by 1ft plant box. The cats would nibble on it, lay on it, roll around it, whatever. I assume that you are talking about the dried stuff and I have never used it except when it came in toys.

When my father got his cat I bought him a box and planted the catnip in it. His cat, however, is allergic to it and I ended up giving him mouth to mouth after introducing her to it. So needless to say I don't keep it around anymore.

My cats have never reacted much to catnip. We get a purple heart-shaped toy that comes with a big bag of catnip so you can refill it but the cats dont play with it at all. Sometimes Kittiwi will be really playful all of a sudden (she is usually kind of grumpy). But i dont know if that is because of the catnip or because she is in a good mood.

It's not unusual for a cat to eat their catnip. The dried kind that you pick up in the store is clean and packaged just for their consumption. I grow it in the yard and will bring in sprigs of the fresh stuff quite often in the summer time. Our girls go crazy rolling in it and after they crush it beyond our ability to recognize it they eat it......
