My Lovely Girls
Brisa at 2 wks. old, just after her mother was struck and killed by lightening. Brisa was a bottle fed baby and an absolute puppy dog. (this is in Wyoming where I bought her and her 1/2 sister, Filinha)
Brisa as a yearling. Brisa, kissy face Brisa and Filinha (Filly) Close up. (I'm a terrible photographer...always manage to cut something out. Grrr) |

They were on a 1700 acre ranch in Kemerer, near Cokeville.
Yes, that was scary all right. They have some violent storms. Their owner treated his horses like his baby daughters, although because he was aging and not well, did not do anything much with them. But when he did, you could see it how he loved them. So, they were green when I got them, but had very good bloodlines behind them. Did you ever hear of Wayne Newton, the singer? He is known to have some of the finest Arabian horses in America and one of his, Gallero was the grandsire of my girls. They were double Gallero granddaughters. And there were some other legendary horses back there I guess. Their sire was a Spanish bred Arabian imported from Spain. He was gorgeous. He had been passed around most of his life and had some bad experiences, I think. He was quite neurotic. I don't think he started out that way. The lady who bought him was a breeder of Arabian horses whom I worked for... with her young ones and stallions and a little with her mares. The young ones she couldn't get enough time to work with them and they were holy terrors, already strong by 5 months and very much a pain in the butt. But, they were cute too. She's the one who told me about these mares. So, I went down from Washington state, where I use to live and bought the two mares. Brisa wasn't so hard to work with as she was very trusting. Filinha, the dark one was not so easy....very, very volitile, kindly, but fearful. She was, really the better looking of the two I think. I can't find a good picture of her...didn't take enough. But she was fast as lightening and flashy. They were gentle and sweet, really nice to work around on the ground. LOL. I took my fair share of spills off of Filinha. She took me for a couple of bronco rides. |

I've heard of Wayne Newton's arabs. I've driven by his place many times in Las Vegas and would slow down and glimpse some of his horses through his gate LOL |

Wow, could you see some of his horses? How cool! Yup, he's pretty famous for his horses all right. And for his singing. He had that high voice that sounded like a girl and when I was a kid, my friend's Mom would listen to him and we thought that was soooo weird. But actually he had a great voice and style. LOL.
