"Nothing is ever easy"

Ok, I'm a little worried...
Make that freaking out.
I know that Ferrets are prone to adrenal deseise so I've been reading up on the symptoms that "says" they have the deseise. Well, one of the symptoms was a swollen vulva on a spayed female and guess what Casey has some of the time? A swollen vulva. You can only see it some of the time, and other times you can't see it at all. She is only 5 months and I read that it normally hits Ferrets around 3yrs, but I'm still worried. She also seems to have a thinner coat, but then, I don't know what a Ferret's coat is supposed to look like and she is having her seasonal shedding, so.... She is still really active and is eating and drinking fine and her poop is normal. So can someone please shed some advice that will either take away my worries or comferm them? Does it sound like she has the begining stages of Adrenal Deseise or did she just not have a complete spay? |

Ya, I'll talk to Mom about it. But before I mentioned it to her, I wanted to make sure I wasn't worring for a stupid reason. So ya, anymore info would be greatly appriciated.

Vet exam is a good idea. You could also try asking people on ferret forums and looking for advice on ferret websites (if you haven't already).
Here's a few I found.. http://www.ferretcentral.org/ http://www.ferrets-ferrets.com/ http://www.canit.se/~griffon/ferrets/ Cass. |

Thanks. I found a pic of a swollen vulva in a Ferret magizine that I have, and I don't think Casey has one on further examination. I guess I just kinda freaked out because Ferrets are so prone to that disese. lol
But thanks for the websites: I've been looking for Ferret forums for a long time. I was a member of one (a really good one too), but I can't get the page to work. Maybe I'll try again...So I'll ask all of my Ferret questions on one of those boards from now on. lol |

Check out Mercia Ferrets Coventry
http://mercia41.ipbhost.com/ http://www.mercia41.freeserve.co.uk/Mercia__Ferrex.htm The people on here are very nice ![]() From my ferret book The Essential Ferret Adrenel Disease Hair loss beginning at the base of the tail not the tip and progressing up the spine. Flaky, red and inflamed skin that is sometimes overly itchy... (ferrets are itchy lil creatures to begin with) Lethargy In females (even if they are spayed) a swollen vulva; in males, aggressive sexual (mounting) behaviour even if they are neutered... The best treatment is to have the gland removed, they can go on to live happy healthy lives ![]() |
