Out of curiosity...who here has birds?
In Kerrie Beth's post I realized quite a few of us have birds. Just wanted to know what everyone has. I have a bronze wing pionus and a cockatiel.
I bought Dusty (the pi) when I was 17, she was a few months old. She is now 5 and a happy bird! We got Ash (the tiel) after someone let her go in the pet store I worked at (no, we didn't sell puppies) . She had full flight and they just let her loose. She was sweet as could be. She's getting old and bitter now, but loves to sit on shoulders, she's just not as into getting scritched as she used to be.You can see their pics in Kerrie Beth's post about her shrieking cockatiel. I didn't want to hi-jack her thread any more than i have already... |

Ok, I'll check in too.
Two cockatiels Daedalus & Icarus. Both HATE people. I'd love to tame my birds, I think they'd benefit from it even more than me, does anyone have any tips? I have a LOT of trouble catching them since they're in a huge cage, they're wings aren't clipped (neither was my last 'tiels and somehow I managed to tame her). It's frustrating the hell outta me. I've had them for years, so I'm sort of at the point where I don't want to bother them with all the stress of it anymore. Any advice? Cass. |

Four Budgies and one Cockatiel. Love em all to bits and pieces although I can say that I very much prefer the budgies to the tiel
Cassiepeia, Mattie Sue Athan has written a fantastic book called "Guide to a Well-Behaved Parrot". I recommend it for all bird lovers and owners and require the recipients of my budgies (I breed them) to purchase this book before acquiring one of my birds. |

That's so sad, Miss. Chi.
My sister had zebra finches, they're gorgeous little birds, I'd love to get some myself one day. Cass. |

I have a duckling named Pato. He no longer resides with me at my house since he started to become a teenager and was fit and healthy enough to go back with mum and his siblings but he's still my very special boy and I love him a lot (he now lives at the horse ranch I work at). Due to being hatched pre-mature he was very weak and tiny which is why I brought him home. Now he's still tiny but as strong as the others.
Here's a pic of him the day I brought him home ![]() |

I have one Budgie named Abby.
Like Cass's birds, she hates people and, like Cass, I can't tame her, she doesn't have her wings clipped, and she is frusterating the heck out of me. And I've also had her for about 2 years or so. I feel bad for her because since she isn't tame, she can't get as much time out of the cage as I'd like, and since she tries to bite me every time I stick my hand in the cage, her socialization time is limited. (But at least I'm in my room often and will sing to her and "talk" with her. When I do that she'll start chirping.) I'm debating about whether I should just get a bigger cage for her (but it is a pain in the butt to find a big Budgie cage...they are all tiny!) and just forget about trying to tame her, or if I should try. I just don't know, and I don't know how to go about taming her since her wings aren't clipped and she bites. She used to not bite, and I was allowed to touch her and she even perched on my finger a couple of times. Once outside the cage, twice inside the cage. But now she is just really crabby I guess. |

Two 'tiels. I have a nice big cage for them. I don't mess with Fran, but Fred is getting to be more social!

Ritz, you should go and buy a bigger cage anyways. Birds can experience rapid temperament changes for the better when switched to bigger, more comfortable living situation. Apricot was in a slightly cramped cage and he was downright unhappy. He refused to be touched and was extremely skittish. He would bolt and flutter around the cage if anybody tried to approach him. So I immediately moved him to a cage twice as large. Within a week, he would voluntarily climb over my hands like they were a playgym
