The girls

I have been out all day and just asked hubby to go lock my chooks (the girls) in for the night.
He then informed me that a quoll had gotten in and murdered 3 of them

The quoll just got in and killed them and left their poor little bodys. Wayne buried them, I have just got him to go and get the last girl and give her to a friend to keep with her chickens.

Poor little things were only 18 months old.
I am not getting any more as it doesnt matter what animal it is if I cant keep it safe then I dont want to have any and in the country it seems impossible to keep them safe

That's a real shame, Linnie!

I must admit I was a little worried for a second that you were referring to your dogs. I can only imagine how hard it must be to keep 'livestock' in the country with so many predators about. Are there many quolls in your area? I know they are pretty endangered.

I have to admit I dont know what a quoll or a Chook are so I am going to Google it...regardless I am so sorry that you lost your animals and especially so violently.
Wish I could hug you Linnie.

EDTA: OK looked them up, a chook looks just like a chicken right? and a quoll is a little mammal, I had never seen one before. Well, in your loss Linnie you have managed to educate a friend on the wild life of Australia.

I'm so sorry you lost your chooks like that. How horrible! I don't blame you for not wanting to get any more livestock, especially small ones.

Chook is Australian slang for chicken and Quolls are little native mammals who are carnivores.

Sorry you lost your chooks Linnie, it's devastating to lose something you've raised and vowed to keep safe. I remember when I was living at home we lost all our chooks, every single one, to someone's ferret who'd gotton loose.

Broke our hearts, so I really do sympathise with you.

Don't let it stop you from getting more animals. Nature can be harsh but it's not your fault, ok?

I have thought long and hard about getting more Chickens but I dont think I will Cass.
Last time a fox tore through 2 layers of wire and ate my girls and their 6 babies.
This time I blame wayne for not lopping a tree I had asked him too ( for 2 years ) I am sure thats how the quoll got in.

Swiftwind if it had have been my dogs you would have heard the screams from there. I am paranoid about Sophy and Izzie they even sleep in my room so that if we have a fire I can throw them out the window to safety
thanks for all the kind words. I feel really sad they had such a violent death
