More than a dozen pets die in house fire -- GazetteXtra

I could not imgaine losing that many at one time. I really hope she's able to recover emotionally and move on in time. I'd be absolutely devestated.

I don't agree with the article limiting the number of dogs owned...quality of care should be the main concern, not the quantity. I know some people who have one dog and shouldn't own it, and yet others who have four + and are wonderful owners.

There's has since been another article written, i didn't see it online, but many people from AKC clubs, shows, other humane societies, her vet, neighbors, customers (show owns a grooming shop) came forward saying how great of an owner she was, and how her animals were always well taken care of. and they all took offense at the comments about her having too many animals and the humane society now says the employee making those comments was basing them off concerns from the "authorities" (fire fighters maybe?) about there being so many dogs. They said they assumed there was a problem based on the number of dogs before they knew of any details.

The director of the humane society then stated they don't endorse a limit on a certain number of pets and said "I don't think it addresses the issue because you can have a persone who has a dozen dogs or cats and is caring for them properly or someone who has one animal and isn't doing right by it" - Angela Rhodes executive director of the humane society.

I don't know if anybody remembers the home in WI a couple years ago that had all the Huskies taken from it and the house was condemned, but she was also a part of the campaign to remove those animals and she donated a lot of time grooming and getting all those dogs back in good physical health to adopt out. By all accounts it looks like she's a dog lover thru and thru with the actions to sustain her good intentions. Sometimes really bad things happen to really good people.

I'm glad that people are speaking out about how multiple dogs doesn't mean they are uncared for. For a dog lover, that would just be adding salt to the wounds to not only loose your beloved dogs, but then have an uproar caused that you couldn't possibley be caring for them all and that there should be a limit on dog ownership.

Sometimes really bad things happen to really good people.
