Even though it has been quite awhile . . .
I'd like to stop by and remember all the dogs that have come in and out of my life and have touched it greatly:
Dukie - short for the Duke of Cookhill Rd. (where we use to live) Bootsie - lab/bealge mix, that use to crawl up on the chair when my (mean) G'pa fell asleep reading the newspaper, get up close to his ear, and bark real loud and high pitched. It was hysterical . . .to us! Rocky- one of the best sleeping buddies I ever had. He wasn't very big and didn't take up much room! Lady - a.k.a. Ladybug (a black lab australian shep mix) Mister - black lab and irish setter mix Doog - a shepherd mix our oldest son named when he was about 3 (with his Texas accent). When we asked him what we should name the puppy right after we got him, he just looked up at us like we were the most ignorant ppl in the world and said, "DOOG." Very plainly and indignantly. Sissy - a heinz 57 mix, little girl with tons of different small dog breeds in her, some of which were probably beagle and Lord knows what else. Samson - who we had to give away cuz he was a Great Dane and scared the bageebers out of our oldest son (yes the same one who named the shepherd Doog :0) And one nameless lab mix who came into my life for a very short time. My inlaws picked her up off the side of the road realizing she was very sick and needed lots of TLC. So they brought her to me. But she had parvo and was too far gone to save so they had to put her down Even though she was only with us for a short time and we never got to name her, she was loved and left an impact on me. Amos T Bear - my ex inlaws old cockapoo. He was such a character. This guy use to stare at himself in the mirror behind my mother-in-laws bedroom door after he got a haircut. It was the funniest thing. Brutus - my first experience with a pitbull. He was a cutey and really very fun to have around. Ironically one Thanksgiving, my ex father in law threw a turkey neck out on the porch which created a huge dog fight between Amos (yes the above mentioned cockapoo) and Brutus. Guess who won? Amos! No kidding! Then there was the guy I had the longest - Auggie - he was a lab and chesapeake bay shepherd mix. Wonderful dog that use to walk right next to my youngest son when he was growing up like he was his protection force!!! Auggie doggie to the rescue! Course he probably would have licked an intruder to death! Jake - a shepherd mix of some sort that looked exactly like a dingo. Then finally, my parents two Shelties that they had for years. The mother - Brandy was 15 when she died of a good ole age. And her son T-Bear that they kept from Brandy's one and only litter, lived to be 12. He actually died before his mother. She died about a year later. They were part of the family for so long I don't even want to tell you how hard it was to lose them. That's the puppies who I still remember and think of often and fondly. |
