RIP Ryka - My parents' Dog who was doing SO good...

*sigh* I just posted this a few days ago...now this!

Quote:
Update! I am happy now because they have been taking Ryka (the 9 year old) everywhere with them. They went out and got him a halti since he's horrible on walks and now he's good as can be! They also got him a life jacket. He stays on the boat with them (before they couldn't handle both dogs on the boat). So Ryka has been living a good life lately. And Vinny is getting neutered and the training/attention he needed. It worked out for everyone.

Just wanted to tell everyone!
My parents dog died today. They left him out on a leash! . My mom called my BAWLING her eyes out, they thought they were doing good, they usually leave him out in a dog run, but they left him on a leash thinking he'd be able to go in and out of the garage to cool off. What a mistake. They came home and found him on the ground, his leash got caught on the garage door and he strangled himself.

The thing is, they just re-homed Vinny and were doing SO good with Ryka, they bought a halti for him and were taking him on regular walks and bringing him on the boat. They were talking on their way home before they found him today about bringing him out to the sandbar tomorrow to swim.

My mom says she guesses she should have listened to me about leaving him outsuide, but it doesn't make me feel better. Ryka was 9 years old and still acted like a puppy. We've had him since he WAS a pup, since I was 13, since my sister was 6, since my brother was 1. My brother and sister are going to be devistated. My mom asked if i'd tell them since I'm the "animal person" in the family and since they'd be a little better over it by the time my parents come to pick them up down here. I agreed.

PLEASE tell people, learn from this mistake, DO NOT leave dogs un-attended outside on a leash. leashes are for walking on. That's it.

ANYWAY, RIP and play good at the rainbow bridge Ryka. You are missed dearly, we all love you and I am so sorry it had to end this way.

I'm soooo very sorry. I know there aren't any words to make this any easier but please know that we're all here for you. I'm sure your parents are just as upset and feeling terrible about this but I know they didn't mean any harm and I feel so bad for you all.

**hugs to you and your parents**

Thanks...they didn't mean any harm. I'm afraid people are going to blame it on them and say "see what happens when you leave a dog outside?" which is what I myself was thinking at first. But my mom was in such pain over it, I've
never heard her cry like that. She was saying "if only we'd left him inside, if only we'd come home sooner, if only..."...I just can't bring myself to say "I told you before about leaving the dogs outside".

They brought him into an emergency vet to get him communaly cremated.

They can't even go home tonight, they are sleeping on the boat because they can't bear to be home without him there, they feel like it's their fault. It really isn't, they didn't know better.

I am so sad too, I trained him when he was a puppy and taught him all his tricks. Luckily I just got to see him again when I traveled up to see my family. I loved him so much, I even thought about taking him down here with me in the past, but I figured he'd be better off with my parents since he was old.

*sigh* what an un happy night...

Oh that is so sad, poor Ryka. I'm so sorry for what you and your family are going threw right now. I'm certain that what happend to Ryka was the last thing your parents could ever had imagine. It is good that you share with others what happend so that Ryka's death won't be in vain and others can learn from this. Hugs to you and your family!

I am so sorry about Ryka. I feel for your parents.... They must've not known any better, or else they wouldn't have left him outside tied up.

Oh Kelly,

I am so sorry! This just really hits me where it hurts! Your parents must be very torn up with the "guilts" and "if only's". My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Take care you...

Good-bye sweet baby.
