His name was Stranger
When I was a child we always had a Saint Bernard around hence my love for the breed all these years later. But one Saint named Stranger changed my life forever.
One day when I around 13 my father brought home a dark Saint Bernard puppy with no white on his body but a white front left paw and said "He's yours!". My first words out of my mouth were "well hello stranger" and so was born his name. Stranger was gien to me because i was a different kind of child I hated I mean HATED the other kids at school and felt just no one had the same interests as me and I thought everyone was immature. I wasent snobby or rich I was poor and proud lol and that was the problem. Stranger changed my life in so many ways. He was a conversation starter everytime I would walk him just because of his sheer size. He helped me meet my bestfriend and then my first boyfriend. One night I was 17 and was walking down our country road from my bestfriend Amelias house with Stranger at my side. Suddenly a strange man came walking out of the woods over to Stranger and I. He was talking and it was not making all that much sense and he was being far too friendly. he started walking closer to me and I screamed for him to get away. All of a sudden I saw a white glint of a knife and the mn lunged at me. I then heard a roar I swear dated back to the times of the first man and the beast that would become his companion. The knife did his my right calf and cut me rather severly but he never got anouther chance to stab me. I worked my way up on my hands and looks to see the man under a massive Stranger. I knew if I would have left him Stranger would have killed him. But I had a feeling that would'nt be the best thing to do.I started to run and screamed Strangers name. He dropped whatever peice of the man he was chewing on and ran after me. The man never followed us and we got home safely. I cleaned up Stranger in our barn it wasent his blood though. I never told my parents that story until 4 years later when having a conversation about our old pets. Stranger was killed a year later while my parents were on vacation and I was in school. Our neighbors were supposed to let Stranger out but keep an eye on him. Well they did'nt and Stranger was struck and killed on our usually not busy road. I felt dead inside myself and never thought I would recover. Like I said Stranger changed and saved my life in so many ways I could never thank him enough. If not for Stranger I may not be sitting here telling you about him. Or I would'nt have had a chance to rescue my three Saints I own now or my Saint Mix. RIP Stranger thank you for EVERYTHING thank you for my LIFE I will always honor yours. |
