When is first heat?

I have a 6+ month old female Jack Russell Pup. She is due to be spayed at the end of the month. I am starting to get a little nervous about letting her run around with groups of other dogs, because I do not know when she can get pregnant. What are the signs of her going into heat? At what age do female puppies typically show their first heat. Everytime I bring her around other dogs lately she is the non-stop center of attention.... Any advice would be much appreciated.

Sounds like she may be getting ready to go in season and I'd keep her away from other dogs for the time being. jmo

She is old enough and I'm glad your getting her to be spayed.
