Question Tazer is overweight

Hi, Since my pup was neutered at 6 months...he is 9 months now....he has gained a lot of weight........the vet says he should be 15 pounds and he is now 20..............the problem is that I have to leave my other dog's food down all the time.......she is 10 and has always had her food down all day.....she has been 20 pounds all of her life...with the food down all the time tazer eats his and hers.....if i take both of the food up Mai-ling will not eat.......now i don't know how to stop my pup from eating too much and stop eating the other dogs food............I am desperate........if anyone has any suggestions i would be very grateful.

thank you
jacquie and tazer

Short of keeping them separated all the time, you will have to pick up your other dogs meal. In a few days she will understand to eat when the food is down. She will not starve herself.
It is much more dangerous to have your puppy overweight than to have your older dog momentarily upset by a change in routine. The puppy could suffer from joint problems later in life if too much stressed is placed on them in these growing months.

I totally agree. It is more important to keep a pups weight down. Your older dog will not starve her self and will get used to eating at proper meal times.

I'm with everyone else. Pick up the food. You can give your older girl several chances to eat during the day and block the puppy out of the room for those intervals.
