Critical Periods in Puppies

To better understand what your puppy is going through, what makes him do what he does at various stages and ages, here's a link which I think would be helpful, especially to new puppy owners:

Thank you! I've referred to this list several times as my puppy grows. Right now we are in the 6 to 14 Months
Second Fear Imprint Period or Fear of New Situations Period.

I actually printed this out and posted it on my closet to see every day. Even the boyfriend stood there and read it....
Now i feel knowledgeable as to what to expect, and when to be more careful with certian things.

I especially like the last paragraph:

"Being the leader does not mean you have to be big and aggressive. Nor does it mean that there has to be a battle of strength or wills, after which you emerge the victor. Anyone can be the leader. It is an attitude an air of authority. It is the basis for mutual respect, and provides the building blocks of communication between you and your dog. It never means punishment or overt aggression."

When I take my 5 month old lab mix Carter for a walk he does great in the begining of the walk but towards the end he starts to tug at the leash as if to rush me home what Iam I doing wrong????

Interesting that they say 7 weeks is the best time for puppies to go to new homes as for a few years now we have all been told 8 weeks...

we are at the 9m period - and she is at the stage of wandering, ignoring us when we say come, etc. we are keeping her on the leash more but in the past she could play outside & never wander, come right away when called. we live in the country. how do you train them from being distracted by everything (birds, noises, smells, etc) and come back when called?this is a new thing too in the last few weeks. is it the age just like a defiant teenager? even if she has tons of exercise she still ignores us when called. example- we were at a park yesterday playing ball & frisbee & she ran toward a lady with kids barking (not mean or anything just cause she loves people) and the lady freaked out. lucy didnt get closer than 25 feet fo them but still the lady was like "get your dog away from us, some people dont like dogs, etc.ill call the police" (what a b**ch). lucy wouldnt come right away of course. also neighbor & dog walking down the road lucy takes off to greet them all wiggly & happy ignoring my "lucy come". they dont mind of course but we do. we dont want her doing this. she just gets so excited & distracted at anything like this. any advice would be appreciated. thanks...
