found abandend puppies now need help

hi, im at a loss for how im supposed to do this puppie thing and i need help quick we found 6 puppies about 2 or 3 weeks ago along with their mother and father. we took them to the vet (paid by connect-a-pet) and found out they are pit, bulldog, and chow mix. they are now 3 to 5 weeks of age . the mother and father are brother and sister and they are only 1and a half. the puppies already have their teeth coming in and are trying to eat dry dog food (from thier mother and fathers bowls mind you). yet, they still chase after thier mother for the teat. she sometimes lets them suckle but more often than not she ignores them. it seems as if she is slowly trying to wean them but we have no clue. they can poop and pee on their own but the mother(Brownie) will still lick on them to make them go. our problem is , she is no longer cleaning them as much as she was and they are always stepping in the pee and poop. i need to know how much i can interveane here because i cant handle the stinch. im afraid to do much of anything because i feel like we might mess up her routine for them and if they still need her influence and help then i dont want to jump in.

My only advice would be to talk to a vet. They should be able to help you with all the particulars. Good luck. Oh, maybe get a good book that has info on very young pups. Try a library or bookstore.

Don't worry about them so much. This is about the time they start eating puppy food and let the mom wean them how she likes. Do get in there and clean them up and the area. It could mean doing it several times a day. Handling them a lot now is essential for their socialization. Wash 'em up with a rag and dry 'em off. Keeping their area clean is very important. Spend a lot of time with each one, stroking, talking and playing a little with them. They need to get use to human beings and household noises and activities.

Call your vet to find out about worming/ vaccines and anything else.

Your vet will have a good diet that you can put them on. We had to do that with Zeus at first until he was completely ready for the real "dog" food.

Puppies are able to eat solid food from about 2 weeks on. However, you could try soaking the food until it is soft, then draining the water and feeding them. One of my relatives who has eight dogs had a litter of pups, and she just kept them in an exercise pen indoors, which had newspapers on the floor incase they had a mess. You could try getting some puppy toys, too. At eight weeks a puppy can leave their mother (if you don't plan on keeping them), but I'd wait until about ten weeks and get them used to a few things.

What brand are you feeding and THANK YOU for taking them in!
