Christmas Tree???

I have a lab puppy that will be about 6 months around Christmas. I was wondering what I can realistically expect in terms of his behavior around a Christmas tree. My husband and I are thinking that for our own sanity we might just put a small one on a table. Are real Christmas trees safe for dogs? It seems that when they eat a needle it has the potential to do some damage. Are artificial trees any better? This is our first puppy and we have been historically known to be overprotective, so maybe I'm making a big deal out of nothing.

If you have a live Christmas tree, keep the water stand covered. Pine sap mixed with water makes a poisonous drink for your pet. The smell of a live or artificial tree may cause your pet to urine-mark it. It may help to bring the tree into an isolated indoor room for a day or two, so that it smells more like "home."

Just getting ready to post my holiday list of safety stuff to share with everyone.

Just make sure that your fur baby doesn't drink the tree water or eat the tree. Also, make sure that they won't be able to reach any decorations so that they don't mistake them for a dog toy or ball.

I 100% agree with keeping the base covered so that they can not drink the water. When Zermatt was a baby, we decorated from the middle up. We didn't put up any lights either so that there wouldn't be any chords to chew on. Fortunatly, he had no interest in the tree. Christmas day, on the other hand, was quite the event. He felt that it was his duty to collect all of the wrapping paper! It was a challenge to keep it away from him!!!

We put Bailey's puppy play pen around the tree so she can't get near it. We could still put presents under the tree and decorate it but she couldn't help her self to the ornaments, water, or wrapping paper.

this will be Kinos first Christmas also. Hell be 10 months old though.
The Min Pins dont care about trees. Kino I know wont be so good with it. He chews on plants anyways. My fiances family never gets a real tree, but weve decided to only bring out the small table top tree out this year and put it on the entertainment stand.
Next year once I have my own house we will be getting a real tree..(well maybe cuz my wedding is 5 days after Christmas)

My girls don't care about trees much...unless their presents are under there!

We have not had a tree for 5 years because of the dogs and cats.
I am kinda thinking about getting on this year.
