Max and sunny's sister

Okay so im 13. turning 14 in may. I asked my parents about getting me a pomeranian for my birthday. i figured it would teach me responsiblity for the future and keep my busy and happy so im not bored. As I always am because im an only child. We have two other dogs. that are both big. but the books I read say that its no problem with bigger dogs just whatch them and make sure they dont get hurt on accident. We also have cats, which my book says are also not a problem because they get along well with most animals, but of course depends on the dog. Ive planned out everything and even how much it would be and how much of it I would pay. which at the end seemed to be $300 with money i give my parents back and all and what im saving. But still they dont seemed to convinced. I know almost everything about this breed but i am resurching so make sure i know everything I need to. can anyone give me anymore advice to prove to my parents i am responsible enough to have a dog of my own?

Taking into vet bills and food into concideration, there is simply no way the cost is $300 probably over $1,000. I'd take into concideration that. Also I'd walk and feed your \current dogs for a while or something like that to show your parents that you are reasponsible and respect their wishes if they still don't want another dog right now or can't afford it etc. Good luck to yiou.

The most important thing is, are your parents willing to take on the financial responsibility of another dog? If they buy you the puppy expecting you to pay for everything for it, things are going to go downhill real fast! They need to be backing you for it to work, even if you plan on contributing to food and other expenses. Remember that puppies are very expensive to keep because of the initial shots, spaying/nuetering, teething toys (and um, the things that aren't toys it will teeth on
), etc. The whole family needs to be ready to take on the responsibility.Secondly, have you considered adopting a Pom instead of purchasing one from a breeder? I was 13 when I bought my first puppy, and not only was my family not prepared for the responsibility, but even an irresponsible breeder we visited didn't want to sell me a puppy because of my age. Which is another reason your parents need to be in on this BEFORE they're asked, "and who will take responsibility for the puppy?" I'm not sure about the prevalence of Pomeranians in rescue or if rescues have puppies/younger dogs, but you might check petfinder.com and google "Pomeranian rescue [your state]" to see if that's a possibility for you. Also, I would recommend just visiting breeders or dog shows where your parents can meet some Poms and ask the breeders questions. Do you have your heart set on a puppy or would a young dog still fit the bill? Dogs of all ages can be trained and enjoyed, so don't think you won't have enough to do with an adult dog. ![]() Also, is there a reason you already have 2 dogs and are bored but think that a different dog will be different? Do you interact with your other dogs and spend time with them? Do you have any responsibilities related to them like feeding or walking them? I would never get a new dog if my current dogs weren't getting the attention they need, and if you're sitting around bored while your dogs are living in the backyard, well, they're not getting enough attention! ![]() |

yeah. I'll try that. the dog that is my dads (sunny) is like really touchy to weather, loud noises, or anything. but I've finally earned enough trust with her to take her on walks. she used to not feel safe with it. But my other dog (max) doesnt care. but he runs ALL the way to the end of the street. then ALL he way back i have to drag him =P. and then he comes home a sleeps for about three hours. I planned on taking it for walks every day. making it know 3 trips around my street a day =) i guess ill get a lot of exircise though =) |

It's nice to see your level of dedication.
Thanks for answering my questions, too. You forgot to say if you had your heart set on a puppy? If you want to, you can PM me what state you live in and I'll check around for Pomeranians in your area. Some places I check are petfinder.com (I do a search and look at the classifieds), craiglist (do NOT buy from "breeders" who advertise in classified ads--online or offline--like Craiglist, though. No responsible, reputable breeder does that), local classifieds (for owner re-homes or rescues that advertise there), google.com to search for rescues and breed clubs, and magazines like Dog Fancy (they have a breeder section in the back, as well as good dog info. ). So I can help you that way, if you like. Here's one to get you started: http://www.americanpomeranianclub.org/ |

I wish you luck with trying to find a pooch! I had to do the exact same thing with my parents when I was younger, only with me, it was a ferret. It took me a year before my mom finally caved in and she got one for me as a gift. I was speechless for about fifteen minutes and I couldn't stop grinning. Now I know I'm never going to be without a Fert in my life.
And I agree with Tiny. Rescue is the best way to go, but if you buy from a breeder, make sure it is a responsible one. Good luck and if/when you get your new furbaby, post lots of pics! ![]() |

i think it is great you are searching for another dog
i know it may seem like a long time but i think you should wait untill school ends so that way you can spend more time training and bonding with your pup i waited all of last year for niko my maltese because i had to be sure to bond with him and i am glad i waited also he will be 8 months on new years |

You seem to be a very responsible young lady, doing all your research and saving up for your dream...you are to be highly commended for all your efforts.
If your parents are still a bit hesitant, trying sitting down and talking with them to see what their concerns are and how you can address them. It may take a little more time before you finally get your pup but I guarantee it will be worth it in the end. Good luck to you my dear, will keep my fingers crossed for you. |
