Question I once again I have a question.

Ok..since the mother has not with the pups from the start. I have them in the whelping box from the first day...lined with a nice warm blanket and a heating pad under that. I also have a heater in the room which was at about 89 degrees. I have since they turned 2 weeks today...lowered the temp in the room do to them panting and reading that it can be lowered after the first week..so the room is at 82 now. They seem more comfortable now also.

Now when do I or can I replace the blanket with news papers? The mail lady has been dropping off the extra news papers 2 months before they were born...since everyone said..ya need lots of them...and now i'm not even using them yet. I did today line the floor of the room with them and let the puppies out of the box...they seem to really like that since they are now walking around. My question...should I line the whelping box with news papers yet or not or when?

Thanks.

I would wait until the puppies were peeing and pooping on their own before you take the blankets out of the box and put papers in. (I imagine you are manually stimulating them to go still?)

From week 4-8 you will not imagine how many papers you will go through each day. They will need changing each time they pee and poop which will be several times per hour.

I also would not bathe them until 4-5 weeks old. they are really just tiny infants right now, and fragile. When you do bathe them, I would only do a couple at a time so you can keep them wrapped in a warm towel till they dry completely, otherwise they tend to get pretty cold.

bathing can wait but if you need to clean them you can use a few wet paper towles and wipe them off (i heard about the poop incident)
