Sticking Poop
Hi
I have a two month old lahpso/shih-tzu puppy. Over all she is doing great and is house traing nicely. I noticed that because of her long fur when she goes poop small amounts get stuck in her fur. I know this is normal and I try and keep it clean. She has however on a number of occasions had large amounts of poop stuck in her fur. This happens when she tries to poop and nothing falls onto the paper, instead she will rub her bum on the ground after trying. When she does this I know that their is going to be a lot of poop stuck on her bum. Is this normal? It has happened 3 or 4 times since I have gotten her about 3 weeks ago. Is there anything I can do to help her not have this problem, such as adding somthing to her diet? |

I don't know. Is her poop a normal consistancy? That does sound pretty gross. Could you clip her hair around that area so it's shorter? I just don't know...having never had a dog with so much fur. I go for the short haired dogs. LOL. Maybe someone else with a longer haired dog will be able to advise you better.

I would clip the hair around there...must not be pleasant to have poop stuck to your dog, LOL!

My grandma had to cut my goldens hair around there too, unless you rele like the long hair, take her to pets mart, or a grooming place and let them cut her fur the "short way" or i think you could prolly just cut her hair around the bum yourself... hope this helps!

We agree a hygiene clip is a must. We have that problem, too. Cozy doesn't try to get it off herself. She comes to me to wipe it. She has her tail tucked and the "poopy butt" look on her face. It makes me feel real sorry for her. She has me trained pretty well.

my cat, sox.
ok umm well obviously she licks herself she is a cat!!! and cats have hairballs, but she doesn't through them up, her hair comes out the rear(which is normal) and her poop has hair in it so when she is done pooping there is a terd still there, so she takes her self and DRAGS her butt on the carpet!!!! We bought her meowmix hairball formula and mix it into her regular food and it works really well!! I no that doesn't help with your problem. maybe you could shave the areas with the long hair or the areas that poop gets stuck too. hope that helps!! ![]() |

Thanx
Hi,
I just wanted to say thanx for your all your advice. I have given her a hair cut in the back end. It is a big help. I can't believe I didn't just think of that myself, but everyone else sure did. Thanx |
