Tripe for puppy
I have just started feeding my 13 week old puppy, prize choice tripe with some kibble.
I just wanted to know your opinions on whether this is a well balanced diet for my puppy and what else you would suggest i mix with the tripe. I know the tripe is all natural without any preservatives, fillers, colouring and additives but is the puppy getting the vitamin and minerals she needs. By the way i feed her pedigree dry mixer, can you suggest any better mixer. Thanks |

Tripe is very nutritious. As long as it's not raw - as in not cooked and or preserved, then you are okay. Looking at their website, i'd be inclined to think that this is a raw product, though. Mixing raw and kibble is never a good idea - kibble slows down the digestive rate of the raw meat leaving the dog vunerable to nasty bacteria to grow. Here is a good thread at the top of the Dog Health Concerns page.

Box me In.. did you mean to say as long as it IS raw...
I prefer to feed Solid Gold's Canned Tripe. Yes, Tripe is excellent for your dog and it contains a ton of good things for your dog. It is afterall the innards of animals that they would naturally prey upon, and so you are making up for the HUGE shortfalls in the pedigree that you are feeding, which is a very POOR dog food. I would suggest Canidae, Innova, Eagle Pack (especially their holistics) and Solid Gold for the dry kibble. Also look at Solid Gold's additional supplements. They make a good vitmain and mineral supplement. Speaking with one of their sales representatives would help you make a good choice for your puppy who requires a special diet at this extremely important growth stage. |
