I still have to go to school and my dad goes to work everyday.
My mom lazy, mean, and very strict. We are getting a puppy today, but I'm worried that my mom wont take my dog for a walk while I'm at school. I was going to keep him in a crate but that would be torture for him, and he cant hold "it" for a long period of time. WHAT SHOULD i dO!!? |

Don't get the puppy.
Sorry to be blunt, but what you're describing is not what I would consider the right situation to bring a puppy into. Your mother is unwilling (from what you say) to participate in the care of the pup, yet she is the only one able to care for the pup the majority of the time. I would wait and only get a puppy when either..A: Everyone in the family was willing to care for it, or B: You were in your own place and could look after it yourself with little or no help. We can't be selfish when it comes to our pets. This is a living creature we're talking about and they deserve the best life possible. If your mother really is as unwilling as you say, this is not going to be the best life possible for the pup. Cass. |

I agree with Cass. When getting a puppy, all people who live in the household should want a puppy. If there's one person who doesn't, it will not work. Especially if the person who doesn't is the only one to care for the puppy majority of the time. Sorry, but I would wait until either all members are on board and agreement with getting a puppy or until you get a place of your own and are able to come home from work during your lunch hour to take the puppy out. I wouldn't get a puppy.

Don't get one just yet. If you just really feel the need try volunteering at a local shelter. That way you could become more educated and experienced before taking on such a challenge. If the one person who will be home with the puppy isn't willing to care for it properly then maybe you should rethink your decision. It's not about the gratification of owning an animal, it about the love and companionship of raising a pet!

I could not agree more!!!! I had to wait almost eleven years before I get another dog (my puppy who is on the way) because I was working overtime and the people I lived with did not like dogs inside the house, and still now I had to make -- though happily -- quite a few sacrifices by changing my schedule, so she can have with me the best life possible.
PLEASE, PLEASE, WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE READY FOR THE PUPPY BY MAKING SURE YOU CAN TAKE CARE OF IT ON YOUR OWN! DEPENDING ON OTHERS FOR SOMETHING YOU WANT -- ESPECIALLY IF THE OTHER PERSON IS NOT WILLING TO HELP AND EVEN MORE WHEN THAT SOMETHING IS A LIVING HEART -- IT WILL MOST LIKELY RESULT IN A HEARTBREAKING DISASTER FOR YOU AND FOR YOUR PUPPY (THE PUPPY'S BAD EXPERIENCE CAN AND WILL AFFECT THE REST OF HIS/HER LIFE). Please, think your decision again! |

I too agree with Cass.
Wait and get a pup when you are in a better position to handle the day to day duties. |

Who decided on wanting a pup? Talk through your worries but in a nice way and not putting anyone down. Have you asked your mum what she would do with the pup whilst you are at school? She could surprise you with her reply. It may also be something that brings her out more.
Have a chat and see why the family really want this pup and see if it's really what ALL the family want. |
