Two more days, and I finally get my puppy this WEDNESDAY!!!
Did you start wearing collar and leash to your puppy almost immediately? I am going to hold her, but what about the next day and the day after? I am not going to walk her of course; she is too young, but at what age did you start putting leash? I think I am overprotective, and the question sounds silly, but I feel bad to wear a leash to that young puppy (seven weeks!). Am I silly? Also, for that small of a puppy, what kind of a collar / leash should I get? Should I get one with me when I go to pick her up from the airport, right? But how will I know what size to get when I cannot measure her? All I know is that at this moment she is around 3-4kg, which is about 8-10lbs. |

You're pretty safe just getting a small adjustable collar. And even though you won't be walking her just yet, it's a good idea to get her used to wearing a collar, and have her dragging a leash for few minutes here and there while in the house just to get used to it. Of course always supervise when you do this. When you can't watch, remove the collar.

I agree with BB. It's a good idea to get her use to the collar and leash as soon as you can.

I agree with what has already been posted I got Taitum at 6 weeks and put simple collar on her when I got her home for the simple fact I wanted her to get use to it. I have also been working with her on walking on a leash and it is coming along good. Good luck to you with your new puppy cant wait to see pictures.

Agree
I would start now with a adjustable collar. I only put it on when we went on walks, I felt better that way. Make sure you get some sleep now, the next few weeks, sleep might be hard to find.

When I brought home Chloe I had her wearing a collar. She threw a fit about it at first, constantly digging and scratching at it trying to chew/claw it off, but she got used to it after a couple of days. I just bought her a new one and it is big on her, but it was the smallest rolled leather collar they had. LOL
I also started leash training her as soon as she came home, but she was a perfect little angel on a leash, so not much training was needed. Everytime I let her outside she has to be on a leash as our yard isn't fenced, so getting her used to a collar and leash was extreamly important. |

Ok. I was just worrying because she is so young, but I am going to get an adjustable collar as you said and have her used to the leash. I wanted to use a leash when I take her in the yard for her business because I did not want her to make it a play time.
I have also read that this breed don't need training to accept the collar. At first, they might feel a little uncomfortable, but in a few minutes do not mind it. They say that this breed accepts the collar as if it was quite natural for them. Almost here; time goes sooo slowly. |

I have never met a dog of any breed that didn't take more then a couple of minutes to get used to a collar.
Collar usually goes on a dog the first thing at my house. I have to be able to have something to grab hold of - those escape attempts at the front door, chasing the cat, etc. While at one point in my life, leash training might not have had such a high priority - you never know when you will find yourself in a situation that requires your dog relieve him/her self while on leash. You would be surprised how many won't. ![]() |
