How old can a puppy be before she gets into the water?
Not just for bath. I want to get her a small swimming pool (the one for babies) and fill it with water in the yard and let her splash around. ![]() She is only seven weeks (too young?). How old she should be before she gets a bath and before she can she start playing like that with the water? |

I don't think going in a little water will hurt the puppy at all. It's the walking in dog parks or streets that isn't safe till they have had all their shots. Starting them in the pool young is a good idea! Post pictures.

I wish now that I had started my kids out swimming at that age, or at least when we brought them home. I think it's easier to teach them when they're younger cause you can actually help them out easier at that age. When they become lummox's in the water at age say... 6 it becomes a little challenging. LOL! That's when Tweeder learned how to swim!
![]() The one thing that took him a while to understand was that he actually had to use his back legs to kick instead of trying to touch the ground. So I had to hold his but up in the water to help him understand that he could float easier if he pumped his back legs. ![]() |

I agree that 7 weeks is fine - I'm sure you will do this anyway but make sure you always supervise her when she's got water in the pool - small puppies tire super quickly so it's best to keep an eye on her so you can help her out if needed.

I agree with the others. I think introducing her to water while she's young is going to be good for her.
Looking forward to pictures! ![]() |

Hi all,
yes, she will be supervised; in fact, I am looking forward to this because it would be part of our fun time together. I am also going today to get a water toy that I saw last week. It is like a Hulla Hoop, but you connect your yard hose on the side and springles water all around in the circle. You can control the intensity of the water that pass through to your liking. Dogs LOVE to run through the circle while getting wet. They do not have to jump unless you want them to jump in which case you raise the circle somewhere higher. My puppy should not really be jumping until they are over a year old (even then it depends on their health) because she is a large breed and it is not good for her joints. But she still can run through the springlers that are created around the circle. It is going to be a lot of FUN! |
