how much room? and more questions

I have a vari kennel apart. I put the top upside down and attached it to the bottom without the door, so there's like 2 sides. One side has a towel and the other newspaper. It's a medium size varikennel and I'm kicking myself for not getting the large, but I have an expen and actually put it in there so mommy can have more room and access to the litter box at nite( I close the pen at nite, don't want her running around the house as she has started, for some reason peeing and pooping in the house if we don't watch her.I crate the chis at nite anyway) So my question is ,after all of that, when should I put them in just the expen and should I leave the litter box in there ? Also, will they use the litterbox and if not how should I start them to? Sorry more than one question. I'm new at this!

Your mom dog's breeder should be a great source for all your chi and chi raising questions.

This is a very dog friendly site, and the only breeding we agree to is by ethical breeders. No offense, but you probably aren't getting very many replies because no one agrees with your breeding practices. Sorry.

So what Flutterby was tryig to say, very nicely, was that if you were breeding responsibly, the reputable breeder that you bought your Chi from would have been able to help you with any and all questions.

I would assume you can start letting them have run of the exercise pen now (they are four weeks, right?). What you could do is have the exercise pen open up into the crate - that way if you need to confine them or they want a secure place to sleep it will be easily got to.

Dogs aren't like cats with an instinct to use the litter box. You will have to teach them to us it just like you would have to teach them to go outside.

I guess I don't really understand your question. I'll take a guess. so you have a mom dog and puppies and you're wondering if they can go in an expen with a litterbox?
And the mother dog is litterbox trained?

I would try it out with all of them in the xpen and watch and see. I would make sure no puppies hang out in the litterbox though. I'm not sure on how to litterbox train puppies, I guess teach the command potty by when they potty say good potty then, give a treat. I doubt the mother will teach the dogs to potty in the litterbox, even though some might watch, but they might be too young to understand.
