Puppy Drank Shampoo Water, started "gagging"
Hi, I'd like to introduce myself, My name is Chris and I just picked up a boston terrier/ queensland mix. His name is Jack and he is just over 2 months old. I decided to give him a bath today, as he had trampled in his little poop piles while I was out and smelled pretty bad. I used a puppy safe shampoo but as I was shampooing him he drank some of the water that was coming off and after I finished drying him he started doing a little "gag" as though he wanted to vomit, but did not. I gave him a pretty good sized bowl of water and he drank quite a bit and stopped "gagging" shortly after but I just want to make sure he is ok. Thanks.

Congrats on your new puppy and welcome to GP!
![]() Your pup should be fine but due to his age I would keep a close eye on him; it isn't really a concern on the shampoo as much as it is a slight chance of water being inhaled into the lungs when the pup was gagging at the taste. I'm sure your pup will do fine but should you start to notice any shortness of breath, puppy acting a bit under the weather, loose stool, coughing, runny nose ( yellow or green discharge ) or shortness of breath when in a calm state then I'd suggest taking him in to make sure. |

Thanks for the replies everyone,
Well, there are no signs of illness, stool is normal, not abnormal mucus, everything seems to be ok. I swear, I'm so attached to this little guy, its like my own kid (lol..along with the sleepless nights he's givin me right now )-Chris |
