Newborn puppy

My dachshund just had a single puppy on April 16. So this pup will be two weeks this friday and his eyes havent opened. Is this a problem or is it common for pups eyes to open around two weeks?

I read online just now that eyes open around 12-14 days but it can take longer. Good luck.

There shouldn't be a problem if his eyes don't open on 14 days. They will most likely open pretty soon.

My dog's puppies didn't start opening their eyes till the end of the two weeks. One pup opened only one eye on the 12th day, then him and the others open both of eyes on the 13th day, except one had only one eye open that day. He opened the other eye on the 14th day. I had to help him open one eye, by wetting his eye with a soft cloth to get the crusties out and gently part the lids. The eye crusties made it difficult for him to open it himself.

Take the puppy to the vet and make sure it doesn't have eye infections.

Yup, if in doubt...consult a vet. Especially with a tiny puppy. They can go down hill fast.

Well actually I just looked at a calendar and it's only been 14 days so I wouldn't worry just yet.

Generally, a puppy's eyes will open between 2 - 3 weeks of age. I'm sure there is nothing to worry about, but if you feel that the puppy is unhealthy in any way, it would be a good idea to contact your vet.
