Chewing bed in kennel
So I have a nice comfortable bed in my 12 week old's kennel, I would like to keep the kennel open when he's not in it so that if he chooses to nap there he can. But Brownie likes to play tug a war with his bed to get it out of the kennel and after he's accomplished that he chews the bed.
Now even though it's the funniest thing to see this small 6 lb dog haul his kennel around the house by the bed I would really rather him not chew it. Any suggestions how to get him to not chew the bed when he's not in the kennel and while he's in the kennel? |

Have you tried giving him something else to chew on in his kennel? No idea if that'll actually work or if he'll prefer to chew his bed though!! Maybe something like a kong?

I second the kong idea. You'll have to make the chew toy more interesting than his bed. I'd also treat the bed like any other human furniture...you can lay on it, but don't chew on it! Which, until he knows not to chew on it, I wouldn't be putting part of my couch in a dog's crate either.
Sadie was really bad about chewing up blankets/beds we would put in her crate (even with loads of chew toys also availible). So she just didn't have and blankets or beds in her crate. |

I'd provide him with lots of different types of toys, bones, and a kong. Another thing that has always worked really well for me, is to fill a hollow dog bone (or a kong) with peanut butter, canned dog food, cheese, ect. Freeze it, then give it to him.... my dogs always love that, and it usually keeps them busy for quite a while. I've done that with many puppies, especially Great Danes which love to chew things, and it's always been a success for me.
Best of luck! ![]() |
