Ariat...

Thank you to everyone who has given me advice on potty training the puppy. She is still a little fearful at times and shakes but she rarely pees out of fear anymore in the house. She is doing better everyday and after struggling to get to her to follow she now willingly walks on the leash about 75% of the time

She's still only 12 weeks old and doesnt mind fighting me in her training. She has a mind of her own. She loves to spend her time sleeping by my side and loves going on car rides. Our biggest obstacle at the moment is the "come" command. She is easily sidetracked and doesn't always come when called. I have been rewarding her with lots of praise and treats and she is starting to get the hang of it. Well, just thought I would update everyone on Ariat's progress

Don't worry about the potty raining she will get it...ushually they have full control by 16 weeks of age. As far as "Come" goes just make it the greatest thing she can do...and don't over do it. When I teach my dogs to come they get a treat or praise...if you treat every time they will only come for food. you want your dog to come in situations without food, the likely hood you'll always have a treat is slim. The other thing is they know that to "come" means we are going in,car ride,treat, company's here etc. We have a seperate comand for checking on thier where abouts. Having a seperate comand helps them know they arn't going to leave, they just are saying I'm over hear. When I call for them by saying "where are you", they come within my sight. I let them go back to what thier doing with an "OK". I find you get a higher rate of recall when you have seperate comands. Sorry if a bit windy,LOL I thought it might help you to know how others work on "Come".

Great news wth the toilet training - keep up the good work!!

And I'm going to state the obvious with the recall training - make sure you NEVER ever call your dog to you if you're going to do something they don't like, so don't call them to you to tell them off or for a bath (if they don't like baths).

she doesnt get a treat every time shes comes, just sometimes, but she always gets praise. i used to do dog club for 3 years, i had a rottweiler (sasha, died of old age about 3 or so years ago) that i did off leash agility and stuff with. so i know the basics of dog training. i also know that every dog is different in their training and some take more patience than others lol. thanks for the advice!
