peeing while asleep

The new addition to our family is lucy. She is about 10 weeks old ,a jack russel/min pin mix. I am trying the crate training thing but had her in my bed with me last night and was surprised that while she was sound asleep, she wet my bed! I wasn't aware they did this. Is this a common?

The only time I've seen that happen was with my 17yr old Chihuahua who was suffering from dementia. It's not normal as far as I'm aware. I'd make sure she peed right before bed and limit her water before bed time too. If it happens more than once I'd check with a vet to make sure everything is ok. However, I'm not a puppy person (never had one) so I can't really answer beyond that.

Cass.

The question would be here.. Was she laying in the pee when you discovered it or was it at another end of the bed? If this is the case she's aware and doesn't know where to go. If it's NOT the case, she needs to be taken to the vet and examined. Is she a submissinve peer? Of course at 10weeks she's still a baby and the crate really is the way to go. I know it's hard not to cuddle them in the bed when they're babies, (we did it as well, but were sorry in the morning) but in the long run, you'll both benefit by structure and regimen. Not to mention in the smaller/terrier breeds, housebreaking is alittle tougher for some reason.

Goodluck and hang in there...

The only time I've seen that happen is with incontience and/or a UTI. If it happens again I'd take her to the vet just to make sure.

You never know, she could have just been sleeping really, really hard!

My pointer will do this. If he goes to sleep without going out. He doesn't wake up when his bladder his full, it just drips so i have to ALWAYS make sure even if he doesnt' ask to go out that he does. He has always done this and has no urinary issues. Just tired mother issues. IT doens't happen very often and i always know it is my fault if it does. Since he sleeps with me believe me, the last thing i do is go out with him. HE doesn't soak the bed, but there will be a wet area on the blankets.

Are you sure she was asleep, and urinated where she slept? If you're not POSITIVE she was "sound asleep", then she very likely woke up and had to potty, and didn't see any choice but to potty in the bed. At 10 weeks old, she can only hold it for a couple of hours at a time and should not be expected to go all through the night without needing to go out to potty at some point.
