Congrats on getting Scooter! I know you have had your heart set on a pup for quite some time!
You will see as each day goes on he will start getting a little more independent. Remember, he is just a baby & all of a sudden his world just got turned upside down and he has left everything and everyone he knows behind. He just needs some time to get used to his new surrounding and people. Right now he is lonely for what he was used to and unsure of what is going on. You are experiencing what most everyone with a new pup does. It can be a little overwhelming for us as well as them in the beginning but I am confident that both of you will do just fine. ![]() |

Me and my boyfriend got a puppy last saturday. Its pretty much our first time raising a dog from such a young age. It is a HUGE responsibility!! The first few nights we didnt sleep much. This week was a long one indeed! But it gets better everyday. Dont give up, its well worth it! The hard work is for a little while, after that u have a loyal pet and a best friend for years and years. Its important that you continue on with your life too. Give yourself breaks. Ask someone else to watch the dog for lets say 2 hours in your day and do your favorite activites. Then you'll be happy and rested, ready to reunite with your best friend.
Good Luck! (I'll need it too!) ![]() |

I don't like the idea of keeping such a young pup in the garage for any length of time. You'd be much better getting one of your family to try to occupy the little cutie's time. It'd also give him time to get to know everyone else, because the last thing you want is a dog that hates everyone except you.
Anyhoo...congrats on bringing your new furbaby home. Enjoy puppyhood while it lasts. LOL Cass. |

Congrats on your pup!
I just got a Ferret and she stressed/tired me out the first couple of days I had her, so I can't imagine how you must be feeling! lol But luckly, I have three younger siblings who are more than willing to help me watch her when she is out of her cage or when I need some "alone" time. lol I guess this Ferret is just a very small of what I'm going to go through with the Leader Dog puppy we will be getting next year.Anywho, good luck with Scooter! |

the first acident happened when I was reading this!
yipee! not, Scooter had an accident right in the corner of the room. poop. it started to smell. Ok I am doin gmuch better with him! 1 accident oot of like 10 potty breaks! I am doing good! Poodles are definetly lap dogs! He is alway by my feet and begging to jump up onto a high chair. I am teaching him the word off rigt now. And sit is starting to come along pretty good. I could have sworn he did it this morning on command but he had just desided to sit.. This morning my dad let Scooter and Alley out to go pee and poop. My dad says he is so proud of scooter. He saw alley go so he went! He went to be t 8:30 last night, just after eating and drinking. He didn't have an accident!!! Funny fact: Scooters first poop was in our bon fire pit! lol, we were moving the location of it the other day and he just went and took a THREE INCH LONG CRAP! His first pee I didn't even no he was going. he is trying to sleep in my lap now ![]() |

Do you have a crate for him to stay in? If you ever want some alone time, put Scooter in a crate and give him a nice yummy treat such as a kong or a nice chew toy. Of course, if he begins to whine, just ignore him... don't say ANYTHING to him, or he'll learn that when he cries, it gets what he wants... attention! Whether its a "Its okay,... or ... "be quiet... no!" etc. If you get him into that habit, it will be hard to break!
But sounds like he's becoming attached to ya! Weren't the toy poodles bred as companion dogs? If so, then of course he's going to be attached to you! He's used to you, and your dad... your brother is a bit of a stranger. And actually, IMO, it's going to be more than just the first few days for being tough A dog is a commitment for life, and I still have "hard days" with my puppers. But it's so wonderful to enjoy them while they're young! Gotta love those puppy zoomies and comical behaviors! |

Icey
Yep I am doing exactly that. He has a kennal and thats what happenes. And to my astonishment he hasn't cried in his kennal since yesturday affternoon!!!! the only time he cries is going to down the stairs,(which he does very well!) and when he can't be near someone. But he is gaining more independance. I am encouraging him to chase after toys and he even did that by himself! He started to carry a rawhide around! Everything is lots better and less stressful today. |
