More questions
Well the bitting has been a little bit better today. But she is still peeing on the carpet, maybe like 4 times a day!
We spray the areas to get the smell out, but she still does it. Pooping is no problem, she goes at the door and whines, but she doesnt get that she needs to do the same to go pee. The only time she will pee outside is after she gets up from her nap (then we know she's got to go outside) or when we catch her at the last second smelling around the carpet. Another thing is brushing. She is a lab mix with bernese mountain dog so she has a thick coat. She HATES the brush. I can give her treats, praise her, doesn't work. Even touching her with the back of the brush annoyes her. Any suggestions? p.s. Another question about bitting. She's starting to learn that bitting me or my boyfriend is not right, but when it comes to others like our room mate, she will jump and bite without hesitation. Our room mate is not very comfortable with excited dogs and rather keep away from her because of it. He is also not the type of person who would correct the dog or do anything at all except move away from her. Its at the point that he rather not be in the same room as her unless she is in her crate Pretty sticky situation!!! ![]() |

It takes a good 6 months to a year to fully house train a puppy, it is alot like potty training a child. I recomend keeping her on a leash and every where you go so does your puppy, keep her leashed to you. She does not understand what you want, you have to show her and teach her. When you see her circling or doing alot of sniffing more then likely she has to go out, scoop her up and you say go outside and out you go with her. Take her to the same spot all the time and use a command word like hurry up go pee and once she has treat/praise her. The point of the same spot is this way the smell is there and that becomes her bathroom area. You must go with her all the time so she understands what you want.... If she has an accident on the floor ignore it, and clean it up but don't let her see you cleaning it up... if you catch her in the act clap your hands, the noise should stop her then scoop her up and outside you both go.... She is just a baby and house training does not happen over night. if you can teach her to bark on command you can get her to bark and say outside and praise/treat.... When she has gone to the bathroom you can allow her some free time off the leash so she can have some freedom, but this is only done when you can give 100% of your time watching her... Accidents are not fault of hers, only the person watching her... if you cannot watch her or have her leashed to you then put her in the kennel till you can give her 100% of your time...
You have to get her use to the brsuh, bring it out allow her to sniff it and stuff but don't let her chew it. Give her a brush and treat/praise and try again later and do this several times thro the day. Eventually you will be able to add in another brush, then 3 then 4 then before you know it you will be brushing her all over.... A good thing is to play with her feet and touch her all over, this helps with clipping nails, and at the vet clinic. Always keep it short and praise/treat for good behaviour. You have to teach her no, when she goes to nip your room mate say No Bite and kennel her for 5 minutes. Then she is being ignored and not getting the response she wants. Unless your room mate can say no bite and ignore her, walking away is good because then she is being ignored... She has lab in her and labs are mouthy, they were bred for retrieving. Hope some of this helps you Best of luck |
