puppy fighting
i bought a male beagle from a breeder. when i whent to go pick him up the breeder said she had a female beagle and ask us if she knew anyone that wanted her. i called my cousin and ask them if they wanted her. they said yes and pick her up the next day. i see my cousins a lot and when i brind my dog to her house or when she brings her dog to my house they start fight. when they first start to fight it looks liked they are just playing then they start to bark at each other and they pull at each others ears and tail. they also bite each others neck and feet. none of have got hurt but i can tell if they are just playing.
Are they Playing or fighting? If they are fighting how can i stop it |

How old are they, being puppies I'd put a pretty high probability that they are just playing rougher than you're used to. On that note, To stop it you don't allow it, and you keep them seperated. It might be cute to let them play and even good exercise, but if you want the puppy to grow up and follow YOUR lead, not another dogs lead, you have to be the center of your puppies universe. My dog gets play time with other dogs she knows, supervised of course. A puppy of mine wouldn't get play time with another puppy after I picked it up from the breeder until well after the handler/puppy bond was formed. Of cours that depends on what you expect from your dog later in life. some short play sessions once and a while probably won't hurt any, but I wouldn't leave two litter mates together 24/7 and expect to get an obedient dog in a few years

I suspect it's rough puppy play. Is one of them crying or looking miserable or trying to get away?
As far as having two pups together and not bonding to you as well, I think that's true up to a point and perhaps in some situations, depending on what you do or if you spend some individual time with each dog seperately, I guess. I've had multiple dogs for a long time, a couple of them, both young and my dogs play together a good deal of the time, whenever they want to, if I'm not doing something with one of them seperately. And my dogs all are very bonded to me, well mannered and obedient. If they're playing rough and tumble and I get down on the floor to join in, they'd much rather play with me than each other. And even if I don't offer to play with them, but for instance, call one over to do something with that one, no problem. They'll leave the other dog and come to me to find out what it is I want. It might even be the dreaded Dremel. LOL. |

At 9 weeks their just being rough with one another and its time for you to step in. If you allow them to continue play this way they'll just injure eachother and if their mother was around she would gently but firmly grab them by the back of the neck, give them what for and settle it for them.
Even though they are out of the same litter it is time for them to be seperated. Nothing wrong with them playing every now and then but keeping them in the same holding area or together for long periods of time isn't a good idea. |

Yeah...if one is getting the brunt of it and they're getting too rough, their playtime should be limited and monitored. Sometimes pups are well matched and have nothing but fun playing and sometimes one gets too rough and it can go from play to nasty when they get older. I agree that they need to be monitored or shown what is acceptable play and what is getting too rough. I've had to do that too with mine. But they can learn what it is you expect and learn how to be more gentle. Good luck.
