How much do puppies sleep

I have a 12 week old Chocolate Lab, after playing with him in the morning he goes to sleep. When I get home from work he is sleeping, I just wanted to know how much are puppies supposed to sleep?

Thank You

Puppies should be allowed to sleep as much as they want. On avg, probably about 15 - 20 hours a day, depending on the health, age, size and weight of your puppy.

At 12 weeks, you can expect your puppy to sleep for about an hour or two, get up and need to go potty, come in and play for ten to twenty minutes or so, maybe need to go potty again, and then fall asleep, to begin the pattern again.
Too much food will also make a puppy lethargic. A puppy should never be given as much food as it wants. This will cause health problems now, and later in life.
Illness can also make a puppy lethargic. When your puppy is awake, is he playful, active? bright shiny eyes, clear eyes and nose, etc.?
Without more info, that' about all I can say.

Call your Vet. and ask about this. I find they are very helpful when you have questions, but don't need to come into the office.

As long as your pup is healthy, I wouldn't worry about it. Pups do sleep a lot. They're growing and just like baby people, they take lots of naps. (Thank God. LOL)

I agree that you need to be careful not to over feed your pup or let it get fat. But he should definitely get enough to make him feel satisfied in his tummy, not still hungry. It's hard to judge, but just watch his weight. I fed pups that age 3 or 4 smaller meals.

Yep, when mine were only 2 months old, they would sleep ALOT! My two would play with eachother, then a minute later..they both would be asleep next to eachother. Or if im watching tv, I used to hold Bingo in my lap, after a minute..he'd be asleep. Sometimes..it seems they're awake when you're asleep, and they're asleep when you're awake.

Thanks for the info. It is funny how you say that sometimes it seems that they are sleeping when you are awake and awake when you are sleeping.
