Question Sick Puppy

Hello everyone.
Well, Chloe woke up today and did not eat her food. Its about 2pm right now and she still doesn't want it. Her poop was normal this morning but last time I put her out she had the runs. I noticed that her toung is also a little bit off color. Is this normal? Do puppies have bad days? I hope its nothing serious. What do ya think?

When you say her tongue is off color what do you mean? What color is it? What color was her stool when she had the runs?

Is she drinking normally? What is the temperature outside, is it humid out and has she been out much today?

Well usualy her toung is a nice pink but it looks a little bit paler. It was hot all night last night, but its not that hot now. She hasn't been outside much at all today. She is drinking water. I did not see the color of her stool when she had the runs.

I try to soften her food, she ate a little bit of it from my hand but not alot at all. She is drinking her water. I just put her outside and she had the runs again, almost totaly liquid. Its light brown, no blood in it thank god.

Try fill the bowl with water and heat it in the microware.
Drain the water then cool it with water drain and give the food to her.
When Scooter doesn't want to eat I do that an dhe eats most of the food.
When he hasn't eat he usually is constapated, he is today! he trys to poop and can't then wipes his butt on the grass.

The runs, what color is it?
Brown?
or like a white goo?

Without much to go on but what you have shared, I would be concerned. The paler tongue is of concern. Does she have a temperature? How has she been acting, besides not eating? How warm has it been?
I'm thinking possible heat exhaustion. How old is she? and what breed? What does she usually eat?
Not knowing exactly what it is, I hesitate to give you any advice, as the wrong advice may make her worse. I would make a visit to the vet in the morning if she has still not regained her appetite, and if she shows any signs of getting worse, or an elevated temperature, I would take her tonight.

If the puppy does not eat often it will go into shock! It's already showing the signs. That puppy needs to go for emergency care pronto.

I am not sure, what is normal puppy tempature? Her belly did feel a bit warm this morning because it was hot in the house all night.

This morning she was acting pretty lazy. Didn't want to play much...prefered sleeping. This afternoon we managed to make her eat a little bit buy softening her food and mixing it with a little bit of canned food (since she likes the taste). We had BBQ outside later on and she came out and played for a while. Seemed to have a bit more enegry.

Today gladly it was not that warm. It is possible that she is suffering from heat exhaustion from yesterday? Because it was a bit hot and we played outside.

She is 10 weeks old. Labrador mix Bernese Mountain Dog. Usualy she eats 1 full cup of dry puppy food 2 times a day. Today she didn't even eat a full cup. She is drinking normaly. Compared to a normal day I'dd say she played half of what she usualy does. Today she peed like normal, had 1 normal poop ealry this morning, and afterwards 3 runs. All of it came out straight like water, kind of a pale brown, no blood.

Hope this info helps a bit. Since it is late and probably not going to have any responses tonight, I will make a point that if she is like this tomorrow we will bring her to the vet.

Thanks for the help guys.

OMG! My boyfriend just told me that Chloe is now pigging out on her food! She just got up from a nap, its 10:30pm, and she's eating again. I hope she's getting better. I'll keep you posted.

She may have been just too watm and today cooled her off. I'll pray that she is feeling better by morning, but keep an eye on her and if she's still warm, or acts warm, try a cool washcloth on her, or tied like a bandana around her neck, loosely!

She may have a microscopic parasite in her intestions. Both of my pups came down with some thing called Coccidia (spelling?) and it causes the runs and loss of appetite. It is something the pups get from their mom but if they ahve to much it makes them sick. Our vet gave us antibiotics and told us to give a tiny-tiny bit of Imodium (licquid) to our pups to help with the runs. I think it was 5cc of Imodium and my pups were about 2-3 pounds. Ask your vet if you decide to try it so they can tell you how much to give per weight.

I'd definately take her to the vet as soon as possible. Even if she seems fine now. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Cass.

I agree with Cass. Those signs that she's been having are not normal. And being off her food like that is definitely showing something isn't right. It's better to get her checked by a vet. Pups are so vulnerable.

I do hope she'll be OK....thinking of you and her. Let us know.
