Question on vomiting
Hi everyone! I have a 4 month old Silky Terrier (Harley). Anyway, he has been throwing up almost every night for two weeks. I have been to the vet several times. I have had x-rays, blood work, barium (sp) and everything came back fine. The weird thing is he only throws up in the middleof the night. Most of the time around 3:30 am. He has his last meal at 6:30. I tried pepcid, reglan and prescripton food. Still throws up. He acts like he feels just fine. Loves to play and eat. I just cannot for the life of me figure out what is causing this. I am sick with worry and stare at him all night just waiting for him to throw up. (I know, get a life!) hahaha I gave him some pepto last night and he did not throw up so that was wonderful. Any other ideas? Also, his stool is normal. He is up to date on all his shots too.
Thanks! |

That really isn't normal and I feel so sorry for you and your baby. I would call and ask the Vet. for his/her opinion. You may need to take Harley in for tests. At least that would give you peace of mind knowing he's in good hands, and get the right diagnosis and treatment for your little guy. I do know that Yorkies have extreamly sensitive stomach's and I suspect it's no different with a Silky. I'm a firm believer in boiled brown rice and chicken for dogs who are have some difficulty with dog foods and allergies, so maybe just feed Harley this till he sees the Vet. Let us know what the Vet. finds.

You might want to try breaking up his 6:30 meal into two smaller ones with the last one given a little later, perhaps even an hr or 2 before bedtime. Perhaps his belly is a little too empty for him and his stomach acids might be causing the early AM problem. I have never had a pup with this problem but I have heard of this being the solution for some who have dealt with it.

I have had him in for the test mentioned above and everything checked out ok. We also tried feeding him later and when he threw up there was food in there so the vet told me to move the time up. I think I'm going to call again tomorrow

Hi
Maybe it helps when you give him a chew in the venening before bedtime, like a pigear or something. and i might not try pepcid you might try something with Randitine (e.g.Zantac), I give that for mine a little before she get's in heat and in the frist third, she has tummy problems. i give it in the morning and evening for 2 weeks. i hope your pup will be better soon.. If your pup has already been tested for medical issues that may cause this to occur then my next guess would be to try a food switch if feeding in smaller / more frequent meals doesn't help. A second opinion is always a good idea as well.
