Help -- *quiet* play for puppies?

Since Winston probably has an umbilical hernia , we're going to try to take it easy as far as play goes. Right now, his favorite game is for us to throw his toys about eight feet, and he'll run over and pounce on them and then chew on them for a few minutes before coming up for the next toy.

Is that too much exertion? He hasn't had all his shots, so we can't just take him out for a walk. I want to make sure he gets all the exercise he needs.

(His second favorite game is to tear around the backyard at top speed, which I guess is no longer an option.)

We were going to start socializing him with another puppy this weekend. Is that still okay?

Thanks in advance for any advice... he sees the vet Tuesday, but I want to do things right until then.

Umbilical hernia's shouldn't keep him from running and playing. Did you ask the Vets. opinion about what his activity level should be?

The little one here that probably has the same thing, is just as active as any other tyke her age. I do not hold her back from romping, wrestling, playing. The vet saw how active and rambunctious she is (she was wanting to play with EVERYTHING at the vets), and had no concern over her activity level.

I'll ask her Tuesday when we go in to have the hernia looked at.

Meanwhile, I think we'll let him play with his puppy friend and let him chase his toys inside, but not run around in the backyard (too much running up the deck stairs and down the deck stairs and up and down and up and down, LOL).
