Losing puppy teeth and biting
I know that there comes a time that puppy teeth fall out to make room for the adult teeth, but when does this happen?
Angel is almost 3 months and she has already lost (or at least I have found) 4 teeth... is it normal that she is already losing teeth? And if not, is it due to all the chew toys she has? She is biting alot more than usual, now she even bites my feet, ankles...any part of the body that is exposed to her. We (my mom, brother and I) have tried to stop the biting...the vet told us to yip at her, but that doesnt work she just barks back...saying no doesnt work either...we give her the appropriate biting toy but she will still come back and bite us when she's in a playful mood...is this normal? should we try another method or continue with the yipping? |

Losing puppy teeth is very norma right now. She will be chewing more for a while. Try taking a tea towel, tie knots in it and soak it in very diluted chicken broth or water. Then freeze it and let her chew on it. It will relieve her sore gums. There are a few puppy teething toys that you can but to freeze also but they are rather expensive. You could try big frozen carrots too ( the huge ones you buy for stew) and watch her closely so she doesn't get big peices gnawed off to choke on.

Oh and for the biting. Just keep working at it. She is still very young and will continue to chew and bite for a while. Most dogs stop between 5-6 months of age..it all depends on the dog and how hyper thay are. Tell her NO and ignore her EVERY time she nips you. You have to be consistant. If the Yiping just makes her more hyper tell her NO (or say ah-ah) in a low voice to show her you don't like it. Immediately give her a chewy toy and praise her when she chews on it. Always praise her for chewing on the toy....look for her to chew on appropriate things 10 times a day and praise her and give her a piece of kibble as a treat.
