With large breeds, I think the best puppy food is NO puppy food! Feed the adult formula right away. Puppy kibble formulas tend to make large breed puppies grow too quickly and can cause problems with their joints and bones.

Canidae doesn't even have a puppy formula.

Some Recommended Kibbles:
Solid Gold
Canidae
Wellness
Innova / California Natural
Flint River Ranch
Wysong

The breeder for my dane recommended using Eagle Natural Pack, they have chow for Giant breed puppies. The breeder apparently has never had a problem with too speedy of growth.

It's not so much which puppy food is the best but is what was used and recommended by the breeder, once you feel that they have reached a certain age that you can ween off one food and on to another then you should choose something that's going to be providing what the puppy needs.

Having a word with your vet wouldn't be a bad idea or the breeder that you had your puppy from too see what he feeds his lot as they get older.

Hope this helps in some way

If you do ask a Vet. what they recommend, they will try and talk you into buying what they sell, which is usually Science Diet and Wellness. It's total garbage food. Just stick to a premium brand that isn't sold in a grocery store. Aside from the kibble you will need to give the puppies some Omega fatty acids like Lipiderm. You could start with the pregnant female and make sure she's getting enough vitamins and Fatty acids. That way the puppies will be off to a good start.

Wellness garbage food? I don't think so.

Since when is Wellness not considered one of the top foods available? Just curious where this information is coming from.

Right now I'm using Pedigree Puppy. Is that good for my 3 month old pup?

I keep hearing (and I agree with) the notion that the better the dog food, the less you have to feed your dog. I'd ask my vet and my breeder, just to verify the information...though I think the breeder (if they're a responsible, good breeder) would know a certain breed better than a vet (who has to cover allll the breeds, so they're not always up to date with the tiny details about a breed).
